These two characters are from 'The Citadel,' an epic story by Louise Boucher. Haydain is a young prophet, and Rhonwyn is a mysterious girl who came to him during a storm, with no idea of her own identity or origins. When Haydain begins to suspect that she is none other than the goddess Nisréaval, Rhonwyn becomes frightened by his sudden reverence . . . I decided to experiment with color for this image. I have used a bold style with minimal shading, because it seemed appropriate to the mythological flavor of the story. I would appreciate comments, since this is a new style for me. The medium is colored pencil (prismacolor).

I'd say you did an excellent job! The colors look a little rough, but I expect that's a product of the scanning, not of the coloring. Beautiful linework! It puts me in the mind of art nouveau styling.

:-) Megaera Callisto Lorenz replies: "Thanks, Cynthia! I definitely admire art nouveau. I think some of the rough look comes from the scan, but some of it resulted from the original pencil sketch getting smeared together with the prismacolors. I tried to avoid that with the last color picture I did (Maiden With Pomegranates)."

I think you were right in doing the pic with the bold lines and minimal shading..it makes me think of scenes depicted on Greek urns or something. I love the girl's hair/outfit..its so pretty!

:-) Megaera Callisto Lorenz replies: "Thanks, Dana! I was going for sort of a classical look . . . I'm glad I've succeeded. "

Missed first comment :-( I'm really pleased with this picture, I think you have them pretty much as I see them. I especially like the details on Rhonwyn's hair. Thanks for doing the picture.

:-) Megaera Callisto Lorenz replies: "It was my pleasure, Louise! I'm really glad you like how it turned out. And like I said, it really helped me work out a lot of my issues with color. I'm inspired to do more with the colored pencils now. "

This is really quite well done. I love the expressions on thier faces - it illustrates the situation so well. You can really see the reverence on his face, and the confusion in hers. I like the angle you've used, as well - it throws the viewer right into the scene, up close and personal. the colours are also very nicely done - I'm no artist, but whatever your "experiment" was, it worked. 12

:-) Megaera Callisto Lorenz replies: "Thanks, Navah! I had a lot of fun with this one. The experiment was mostly just using nice bold colors. I've been overly scared of them for a long time. "

I look at your page every once and awhile to see any new additions, I was shocked at the color !!! really bright, and cheery ?
anywho goodstuff

:-) Megaera Callisto Lorenz replies: "Yep, I'm finally trying my hand at color. It always gave me the willies. I'd complete a really nice sketch that I intended to color, then I would get cold feet at the last minute and just put my colored pencils away. But I finally decided to just go ahead and try it. It's working pretty well . . ."

I find there no need to have talent included to draw this.......Just kiddin' that's great. Especially the hands.

A brilliant piece, exceptional in Elfwood given the style of both characters, and the work overall. I have to say I love the facial composition - it appears very Romanesque, especially with the slightly curved noses. I love it. Individual and with overtones of art deco!
