Once a princess of Elfland ran away. She left her embroidery by the window and slipped out unseen to the wild woods. No-one could figure out why she left, she who had been protected from birth within the walls of the fair palace, who had never been out so far as even the palace gardens, for fear the sun should burn her or the jealous moon steal her wits. The king her father was devastated.

He put all the forest in a deep sleep, and suspended time itself, so that his daughter could come to no harm. Search parties went into the forest to bring her out, but they, too, fell under the king's spell, and fell asleep before they had gone five yards.

So the princess sleeps, there by the stream where she was playing. Caught so suddenly by her father's spell, she will never know how her stolen afternoon of freedom outlasts the centuries.

Think of all the poor birds flying.... poor little guys. But on a more serious note the picture is lovely it almost seems like she is sinking into the forest floor.

The story is really really amazing. The pure smile on her face makes me so sad.. I guess she was not harmed but pretty happy instead when her father's spell caught her... T_T

How is it possible that this one hasn't gotten a hundred comments???? It is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen! The colors, her dress, the details and the way her hair lie on the ground. This is just amazing. Why haven't you got a mods choice for this?!?! Sorry for the rambling, I'm just so impressed!!

This is so lovely. It’s so peaceful, the idea of sleeping forever, undisturbed, on the forest floor is just entrancing. She’s smiling a little; I wonder what she’s been dreaming about for all these years.
