This is my first attempt at something close to Art Nouveau, so please be forgiving for the cheesy framing. A scanned sketch and CG colored in Photoshop, with a lot of help from a Wacom tablet. The colors are a bit more muted than I'd planned from shrinking and rendering a jpeg. Its also about a fourth the original size, so I hope it hasn't lost too much detail. I've discovered that bubbles are disgustingly easy to draw by computer, so I might have gone a little overboard with them too. This took several weeks to complete, so I'm quite proud of myself for finishing it, and how nice it came out. So gimmee comments already.

I happen to like where the ring draws my eye, although the shape does keep the eye right in the middle of the picture... That problem could be helped/solved by doing something round with two of the corners, diagonal from eachother, to draw the eye away, around the edge, and back into the piece. Something round to tie in with the ring and the curves of the hippocampus, but simple, so as not to make the picture too busy. The hippocampus itself is blesedly elegant, and I love the smooth, soft shading the computer colouring gave. Thanks! This is incredibly reassuring, coming from one of the resident (IMO) Art Nouveau Goddesses of the Woods! The framing work suggestion is very helpful too, I can definitly see how that would help. I have a few other Nouveau pieces in the works, so I'll see what I can do to apply your expertise to them!

This is so cool! I love how you did the ring around him. I like the color, too! ^.^ Something seems funny about his legs, though... it's a hard angle to draw indeed, but I think what's bothering me most about them is the dark outline. It makes 'em look a bit flat. It does distinguish them from his body, but separately, they're flat with the dark outline. Also his hooves seem a little too conical for my taste, but I absolutely adore the tail! So so cool! --also, as a suggestion for such monochromatic drawings, add a little more color in the shadows. It makes it so much more dimensional than what you can do with just the one hue, plus white or black. Typically in painting, adding the complimentary color to a hue makes the best color for shadowing (i.e. if the object you're rendering is orange, use blue--I like to use a slightly teal blue with orange personally, but you get the idea.) Nice job!

It looks like something off neopets but nice Pfft. Hate to tell ya, but the legend of the hippocampus has been around for several thousand years before Neopets ever became a twinkle in somebody's eye. I don't play Neopets, but if somebody is using my picture there, let me know, since I'm certain I haven't been asked for permission and from what I know of the rules of Neopets, stealing pictures will get you kicked off in a heartbeat.

Its a bit depressing how everyone associates hippocampus only with the 'peophin' on neopets...Even tho i used to play it myself. Too many pictures ive seen of the hippocampus talk about neopets...Its an ancient mythological animal people! -_- anyway i love your coloring job on this one, the periwinkle is a stroke of genius!

I really love the movement in this picture, and the echoes of curves. Indeed, very "watery"!

I like the face, and how it doesn't really look all that equiney. However, his chest is too wide for him. That's partly why the legs look so weird. Nice job anyway though. 2

Ya should get rid of the black lines around the hippocampus's body. Add a little lighter version of periwinkle. I think it'll look a little better that way.

I like the framing. It gives the piece a very unique look. The tone is so calming, I love it! The seaweed is beautiful.
