My older pictures and descriptions of this character aren't here anymore (cuz I got sick of them, and decided he needed a make-over), so I suppose I need to re-introduce him. This is my character Dane from a fantasy novel I've been working on (or rather allowing to collect dust) for years now. Dane is a sorceror. In my novel, all sorcerors have a guardian dragon with whom they share both power and soul. In the world of Tierna Lorr magic is elemental (I know, I'm so original), and Dane's element is lightning, which should be pretty obvious. This is a sketch colored in Photoshop.

I am very impressed with this piece of yours. Lately I find my self trying to draw more realistic and attempting to improve my anatomy skills. The anatomy in this pick came out wonderfully! Your character looks so lifelike! Do you have any tips for drawing more realistic males? I'm having problems with drawing their chest in particular. Thanks for your time if you do have any tips. 2The best thing I ever did to improve drawing humans was to take a figure drawing class with live models at my local community college. Learning the anatomy and the proportions of the body helped me improve 100% (before that class, my human drawings were embarrassing). If you can't take a class, then I definitely recommend a lot of study of magazines (fashion mags, especially men's, like GQ and Details), and you should try to pick up some good books on anatomy that are geared towards artists. One of my favorites is Dynamic Figure Drawing by Burne Hogarth.

Thank you very much for your advice! I just recently got a human anatomy book for Easter and its been a little helpful. I will go hunt down some magazines too since I'm not quite old enough to go take a collage course yet (darn...). If I ever get my scanner working I'll post some of my works here on elfwood so helpful people like you can view them! LoL. Thanks again Tierna Lorr!

Whoa. This is guy is rad! The first thing than came into my mind when I saw this picture was a chipn'dale dancer. I mean that in the best possible way even though that was obviously not your intention when you drew this. The dragon is very cool and despite what people have said previous to the addition of color, I think it looks fine. In fact, it looks great. No problems whatsoever.
Namaarie.

Very cool effect you got with the dragon there 2 I'd change a few things though.. His lips seem to stand out just a teeny bit too much.. also I think a little more muscle shoulda been added onto his torso.. with just his six pack it the space beside it looks a bit flat.. ya know? But other than that it really is an excellent picture. I really really love the way you colored it 2

hehe, the dragon reminds me of a Nazgul's Fell Beast...
Very awesome... I especially love his hair. Can't wait to see this pic revamped, if you're still planning on doing that.
