After being stuck in the tower for weeks, the princess no longer had the patience to wait for a prince to rescue her, so she decided to escape the tower on her own. That was a little more troublesome than she had expected, though.

This is another one of my old ideas, and I've wanted to make a proper painting out of it for years. Well, now I have, and despite struggling with the tower more than I like to admit, I really enjoyed working on this. Ah, how I enjoy illustrating fairytales (or that is, illustrating how I think fairytales should be). :)

Enjoy!

Medium: Photoshop CS5

Date: May 11, 2011

Time spent: Hmmm, I'd say about 50 hours, working on and off

References: I got a lovely reference for the princess's boot :)

@Paul: these are all teeth, I think, because he’s got a mighty big mouth! 2 12 Think of those small river alligators with the narrow snout ...

Shading and detail are looking brilliant! Also, good work on the pinkish morning light tone.

Thank you so much for the lovely comment! 11 I tried to colour it in a way that would emphasize the fairytale setting, so it became very pinkish 2"
