10 days before my 15th birthday, I decided to start using more reference pictures. This one was an exercise in drawing light and shadow on a horse. Then I just added a horn, and voila! I got a unicorn :) (Yes I know, it's not really a proper unicorn)

I lost the track on how many hours I used, maybe 8... Done in H-pencil and a little bit 3B for the darker shadows. July 2006.

Update: I made the picture darker, as you told me to do, with Microsoft Photo Editor. I think it really helped:) Thank you, guys!

no, even with the real thing in front of me I can’t get my lines right 8 8 you are awesome at it

:-) Michelle Tolo replies: "Nawww.... *pats on shoulder* Don’t give up! Start with easy images, like cartoons, and work your way up 2"

Yes, I always want to know what people are saying, so I do my best to try and find a good translation. Was I being too whiny? 22
It comes from living with two brothers and sisters. 1

:-) Michelle Tolo replies: "Haha, no, you’re not whiny at all ^u^. If you want a translation, then here you’ll get one:
"How beautiful, it looks really free!"
"Thank you! 11"
Is that better? ^^"

:-) Michelle Tolo replies: "You’re welcome 12"

I’ve learned to trust Google translations. They really come in handy. 1

:-) Michelle Tolo replies: "I used it quite a lot for my French homework *cough*. I soon learned that I should double check the texts I translated with my dictionary and textbook afterwards, though 1"

Ooh, I bet you sure did. 22

:-) Michelle Tolo replies: "*nods* 12"

It looks like you captured a black unicorn, shrunk it down, and stuck it on a piece of paper! (that’s a complement by the way!)
(:

:-) Michelle Tolo replies: "Thank you! I hate how I drew the horn, though. *slaps former self*"

Well, a twenty-foot long horn wouldn’t work, but that’s how some people think unicorn horns are. . .

:-) Michelle Tolo replies: "Haha, I’ve seen some examples of that 1"

Yeah. The unicorn forgets he has a twenty-foot long horn and rams it into a tree. (:

:-) Michelle Tolo replies: "Well, it can’t be easy to remember that you have a 20-foot long horn connected to your head 1"

hi i think your horses anatomy looks amazing!!!!! i think the horn it too small though but you shadows are impeccable!!!

:-) Michelle Tolo replies: "Thank you! I used a reference for the horse, so that’s why the anatomy looks more or less correct 12 Can’t say the same about the horn though 1"

drawing horses is one of the hardest things to do!
and you have done it perfectly well done!

:-) Michelle Tolo replies: "It can be pretty tough, yes, but once you get a feeling for it, things become much easier 2 But thanks!"
