"Another Nine" by Michelle Tolo

This is my entry for the Another Nine contest that runs here at Efwood, based on the movie 9 by Shane Acker. It's not often I join contests, but if they trigger my curiosity, I might very well just give it a try :).

About the character: I decided to call this guy 88, and he's supposed to have an 8 on each wing (then it looks the same from both sides). I didn't draw the numbers on, though, so that he wouldn't get mixed up with 8 from the real movie. I tried to come up with an original design, and my keyword was 'athletic'. Therefore I gave him springs under each foot (with a device on the back of each foot to lock the springs when they're not needed). He has small wings attached to his body with rings to hold onto, which enables him to make even longer jumps. When the wings are not needed, he simpy fold the wings on his back and attach the rings on his shoulders. He also has a 'bag-belly' as I like to call it: he can easily bring stuff around. If he existed in the real world, I imagine him being very good at running errands!

I hope the different drawings show how the character looks in a proper way. I tried to make everything look logical and functional. He even has fingernails of sunflower seeds, because I've aways loved the pattern :).

Drawn with graphite pencils and black inc on A4-paper, then coloured in the GIMP. I didn't really have time to draw anything for the contest because of loads of homework, but I couldn't resist ^_^. It is quite rushed, though it still took me about 7 hours to make - far more if you add all the planning. Enjoy!
