I am very easily inspired by things, and I must say that the fantastic movie Avatar, by James Cameron, has been occupying my mind ever since I first saw it on December 22. I actually watched the movie in the cinemas three times during the Christmas holiday!

The wonderful world of Pandora felt so alive to me, and the visual effects in the movie made me stare open-mouthed over and over again. I just had to try and recreate some of it, so that's how this piece of artwork came to see the light of the day (or actually, it hasn't really seen much daylight at all - I tend to draw during night-time...).

Jake Sully seems to have found an interesting little critter, and Neytiri explaines to him what it is. The sweet direhorse in the background probably just appeared out of nowhere :). I think I failed miserably at shortening both of Neytiri's arms, which I concider a great achievement.

Drawn with average pencils on A4-paper, and coloured in the GIMP. I must have spent more than 20 hours on this picture, but I think it was worth it :). Completed January 11, 2010.

The Avatar movie and all of its characters belong to James Cameron.

So how many times have you watched it now that it’s out on DVD *big grin because I’ve done the same*

:-) Michelle Tolo replies: "You’re so lucky! I’ve been stuck with the worst exam-week I’ve ever had: math, Norwegian, physics and chemistry, all i one week. I’ve done pretty much nothing but reading :’(. Speaking of that, what am I doing here? I have 200 pages of chemistry to read by tomorrow... *sigh* I think Pandora will have to wait for me till the weekend finally arrives."

You’re so awesome!!! I’m seriously having a hard time not being jealous of you, i mean not only are your abilities in art fantastic(far better than mine will ever be) but evidently you’re also extremely smart and have great potential.

:-) Michelle Tolo replies: "Haha, thank you very much! But I’m not extremely smart, I’m only somewhat good at things that interest me, like art and science. If you ask me anything about politics, for instance, I’ll look like a fish in an aquarium. O_o
Also, my social skills are horrible; if I don’t know people very well, I’ll stay silent unless asked a direct question. I’m way to shy...
But you know what they say: no one is perfect! 1"

you say you’re only somewhat good at art!?! you are very mistaken my good lady, you are in my opinion an artistic genius. as for politics i prefer to stay away from such things- i think politics tends to corrupt the people who take that path in life.
As for social skills i don’t think anyone could be worse than i. I live in a town of 500 people, i only know about five of those people. In school i only had one friend- he’s my second cousin, and sometimes he even has a hard time being around me -ouch!
And as for perfection; i don’t know much about you, but from what i can tell you are as close to perfect as a human being can get!:11

P.s.
I’m glad you did not join the army- my heart would break if you ended up among the fallen. You are a good person the world would be a lesser place with out you, you are the single ray of light during these dark times.

:-) Michelle Tolo replies: "Whoa....! Now what do I say to such an amazing comment like this? Just trust me when I say that I take your words to my heart, they mean a lot to me 11. Thank you!

I’d say it is far better to have a few friends that you know well, instead of knowing many people you don’t really enjoy being together with. It isn’t the amount of people you know that matters, it is their qualities 2."

The attention to detail is immense: must have taken a long time! your proportions and perspective are also great!

:-) Michelle Tolo replies: "Thank you! The pencil drawing took more than 20 hours to complete, but the colours I added on top digitally took less than an hour 2"

I like how you knew exactly which details to focus on, such as the eyes. That really makes it come alive.
