Even Angels Die

The dreary night shows no tomorrow,

The rain brings not a thing but sorrow,

If I could ask for love to borrow,

Love is what you would deny.

Although my fate had been foretold,

Although your heart, I could not hold,

With meager pocketfuls of gold,

You weren’t a creature I could buy.

I found that even given time,

The bell would not begin to chime,

My greatest sin was not a crime,

In truth, indeed, I could not cry.

My conscience spoke; I paid no heed,

I listened only to my greed,

And for that selfishness, I bleed,

But I continue, still, to lie.

Yet, despite this awesome power,

Despite the lives that I devour,

Inside my heart, my spirit cowers,

I lose no matter how I try.

I feel nothing but my shame,

Because of you, I take the blame,

Though you an I are both the same,

We never could see eye to eye.

The rain has turned the earth to mud,

And in the distance comes the flood,

While waters red as human blood

Are falling from the darkened sky.

The pieces of my heart, now shattered,

Into the gusting wind were scattered,

Although to me, it never mattered,

I bled until my veins ran dry.

As silent as the river purled,

I had come to leave this world,

I ran away, my wings unfurled,

But never had I learned to fly.

Without any qualms at all,

Upon the heavens, I did call,

I learned that even angels fall,

I learned that even angels die.

Wow... I really identify with this, I hope you don't mind this has touched my heart so I'm going to put it on my locker with your name and I'll direct all of my english classmates to your gallery. Because I'm evil and I like your poems. Well structured, simple but heart breaking ^_^

:-) Yuki Erika Radcliffe replies: "heehee. i like evil people. evil is good. ALL EVIL PEOPLE TO MY GALLERY, PARTY!"

Oh goodness was that beautiful. Very dark, very touching, lovely. Your rhyming was impressive as well! None of it seemed forced and it really helped the poem along though I hardly noticed it was meant to rhyme, it fit together so well!! It's so rare you see a poem written so well!! Excellent, excellent job!!!

14 Yuki Erika Radcliffe replies: "Thanx, glad you liked it. This is one of my poems i haven't considered burning yet, which is also rare. Thanx for the comment, as well. "

Mmm, reminds me of that song by System of a Down. Huh, forgot what it was called...-^^-

Anyways, the structure of the composition is very nicely written. The literature is bittersweet, a bit angsty, and just the sort of genre I love to evaluate and analyze.

P.S...thankies for commenting on my poetry! ^_^

1 Yuki Erika Radcliffe replies: "hiya! you mean that chop suey song? hmm... i havent heard that song in months. anyway, thanx for the comments, and you're welcome for the comments! toodles!"

This is a very good poem. Very well written. Your rhyming scheme was perfect and each line melted into the next, which i really loved. It's a little dark but I love dark things =)I don't really read other peoples poetry much but the beginning of this one really captured my attention. This is a great piece =)

:-) Yuki Erika Radcliffe replies: "heh, i'm pretty good at dark things. darkness is kinda my specialty. glad ya liked it!"

Wow. This sounds like something I would write, only 50x better. You have the rhythm. I've never read or heard a poem with this specific rhyming scheme before; I love it. I admire you! Keep this up and we'll be putting your name next to Poe's.

You have a wonderful sense of meter, it’s beautiful and easy to read. I love poems with strong meter, and you write them very well. Another wonderful piece.
