This sort of cat, shaped as it is like a pear, is called a Wumpus. Plural is Wumpi. When they have wings, they become Wumpus Bees. I imagine that Wumpi would find flight very freeing as their heaviness just melts away. This is dedicated to the Wumpi I have known and loved and to the people that own them.

Pencil, white/terra cotta/black conte, ink pen, and one skyblue Prismacolour pencil that gave most of its length for this cartoon. Also, I didn't quite feel this was what I wanted as part of my Lothlorien gallery, so I'm sticking it here.

Hey! Those look like cat versions of me! *grins* They are so cute...I am really enjoying this pic! My hubby just walked by and I showed him this pic...he said I'm his wumpus! *lol*...

:-) Maya R. Hirschman replies: "ROFL ! That's awesome ! Consider this piece dedicated to you and all the other potential human Wumpi out there. *laugh* "

If cats could fly..... Interesting. Very interesting.

AHH! The cuteness! It's overwhelming! *tosses Wumpi treats to them* But really, this picture just perks up my day. I agree, I like the more "cuddly" wings...suits them better. Keep up the good work! 2

:-) Maya R. Hirschman replies: "Whoops, I thought I replied to this. Hehehe. I'm quite sure these wumpi don't need any more treats, but their cuteness is impossible to resist."

This was an interesting picture to find. My cat's name is Wumpus, and I decided to search for his name. Didn't think I'd find this! I always figured that the plural should be Wumpi, as well.

Waaaaai! They are so FAT and cuddly! Are they searching for the elusive honey for wumpus bees? I remember a book about kittens who had wings( I can't remember the name right now) but I think these wumpi are cuter =^_^= They seem so free!

:-) Maya R. Hirschman replies: "I think they are a metaphor for freedom, maybe. We should all be able to take to the sky like that. Thank you, Eleanor."

Holy cow, I want one of these things, they're adorable! I love the great big bodies being supported by the teeny-tiny wings. My world was closing in on me due to massive amounts of homework, but the wonderfulness of this picture has given me strength to return to the essay that I'm supposed to be writting. Thank you for sharing your art with us!

:-) Maya R. Hirschman replies: "Ahhh ! Thank you for your fantastic comment - it was your turn to make MY day. 1"

My friend has a Wumpus! Only it's gold and white, not grey and white like in your picture.
Love it! All your art is great, keep it up!

Is this an ode to fat cats? I love it!
