My poor poor Wacom tablet!  My watercolor paintbrushes have been getting all the attention over the last year or so, and my Wacom (or Wikumpucky, as my brother for some indiscernable reason calls it) has been so neglected!  I finished this sometime last year and I haven't done a single digital painting since!

A friend of mine thinks that I ought to do more shading on the dragon and put a pupil in the eye or something.  Well.  Sometimes a picture tells you when it's finished, you know?  That's all you're going to do to me and you're not going to do any more; I'm done already; can't you see?  That's what happened with this picture.  I did the shading that you see on the dragon, and it just wouldn't let me do any more.  Everything I tried made it look even more stupid...

I figure it's all right though.  Dragons, in my world, normally have visible pupils; it's just when they're in a state of heightened emotions (upset, excited etc.) and when they're just hatched that their pupils aren't visible.  And I figure that the baby dragon just has that newly-hatched blue glowy semi-translucent thing going on, characteristic of all newly-hatched baby dragons...I know, I know.  What a cop-out.

The hatchling's name is Kari.  Kari was the name of a (male) character from Njal's Saga, and Kari is also the name of the (female) postal worker who mails most of my eBay packages for me.  So I figured, whether it's a girl or a boy, Kari will work for a name.

8" x 10", Photoshop 7.0 & Wacom tablet, 2006.

no commnets? you have got to be kidding me. This is amazing... I love it when you do ever-so-slightly erie works, and with the glow to this newborn in its shadowed surroundings... there is something incredibly mystic, mysterious and almost holy about it. If I had money, I would buy a print off you.. Maybe when I get student loans, I will. ^_^

I actually quite like the nice soft glowy look its got going on. Seems very fitting for a hatchling. I'm also very impressed with your detail on all the plantlife. The shading on those leaves is stunning. And the clover is pretty! Its a very nice composition. 2
