Yes, yes, it looks like plain old non-fantasy ravens, but two of the ravens (or maybe all of them, if the painting's multi-temporal) are supposed to be Othin's pet ravens from Norse mythology.  So it counts as fantasy/mythology, really it does.

Othin's ravens' names were Hugin ("Thought") and Munin ("Memory").  According to Snorri Sturluson, illustrious Icelandic historian and myth-preserver, Othin would send Hugin and Munin out over the world each day, and when they got back around dinner time, they'd whisper everything they saw in Othin's ear.  That's one of the reason that Othin's so wise.

I have to say, this is one of my absolute FAVORITE paintings to date.  It's a little...different from what I usually do, but that was sort of the point in the first place.

Wow, really amazing. I love ravens almost as much as crows. (Weird huh?) Really good drawing. I love all the feathers and texturing.
