This picture is a self portrait, and represents a struggle with my demons, mine being depression. The girl in the water represents the demon that is depression, always trying to creep into my life, no matter how far I think I drown her down. In the picture, she's getting ready to touch the water because she's accepting that part of herself, but ultimately, it does not determine who she is.  The depression is the fantasy, it is the lie. This can also be viewed upon as the search for death, for I also had this in mind when I painted it, the girl in the water being the unknown, a passageway to another realm, that appears frightening upon reflection, and the girl looking in hesitant to touch upon it. All done in photoshop from scratch! :)

An emotionally powerful piece. The theme of depression resonates with me. I don’t consider it an inner struggle as you do, but I can understand that framing. For me, depression comes as a consequence of living in a nightmarish world. I insist on changing my external circumstances rather than modifying my desires. This approach consistently fails.
