SciFi and Fantasy Art Odin´s Eyes by Michelle R. Parker

11X17' Ink, Prismacolor marker and colored pencil on Bristol board. This is an illustration for a poem, 'Children of Odin', done for the upcoming illustrated book of poetry by Alex Ness. The book will be called 'A Life of Ravens' and will be illustrated by a large number of artists. It's a fantastic project that I'm glad to be a part of. This piece actually came out much better than I was afraid it would. Originally it was going to be much more realistically styled, with nowhere near this amount of knotwork, but it just sort of grew into this. I'm pretty pleased with it. Oh, and the truly amazing thing about this is, once I actually sat down to work on it, it only took me two days to get it completely done, start to finish. Whew! But my hand got tired!

5 Nov 2007	CB	Loading... Love this one Michelle. Good work Im a dane with a longstanding interest in Norse mythology and I think that this is a wonderful piece. I especially like the spiraling symbols you have added, but one small thing disagrees with me... The Raven is beautiful, but Hugin and Munin - Odin's Ravens were by the common man often affiliated with impending disaster (or misfortune) or a death in the family. They were the link between Valhalla and the land of men (Midgaard) but they were not per se regarded as a friend of man, on the contrary, the characteristic "Caw" was often interpreted as a mocking laughter. I applaud your skills in making this picture...I would have loved tho if the raven had some more sinister ominous feel to it... GREAT ART! Hats off to you
