"chasing moonlight" by Taylor Wilson

 a werewolf rides through a dark forest with her companions, chasing the moonlight.  

She and her equine companion shares a special bond that no one can break.  Her horse posesses the rare gift of telepathy and knows each path she chooses.  She also knows the forest well--better than even the wisest of foxes.  Even if they stumble deep into the forest's heart where nature turns deserted, she will know the way home.   The werewolf doesn't posess telepathy, but has learned her horse's body language well and many times  can guess what horse is thinking.  Galloping bareback through the forest every full moon has become a ritual.  

Then there is of course the owl's spirit.  One night, the owl saw a vision.  It was of a mouse who was to become roadkill.  The owl thought, "I will get there before the car and steal the mouse."  But as he caught the mouse who was now crossing the road, he became hyperfocused.   The mouse was the only food he'd seen in days.  Hunger drover him to eat it before returning to the safety of the forest.  As he began to fly off, a car suddenly silenced the drumming in his heart.  Now, the owl has become a protective spirit.   Only animals  and gifted humans can sense her.   Since The were is half wolf, she is able to see her spirit companion and knows that he is there.

 Together, the three of them will  be forever chasing moonlight.
