Far Away

Far away, out past the sea

Stood a woman of alien beauty

Her hair so long, it touched the ground

Her voice making a harmonious sound

Y

The man alone behind her stood

Listened to her and knew he would

Guard her with all his might

Protect the woman with hair like night

¤

Far away, out past the sea

Stood the woman like a lily

She sang her song with infinite grace

Keeping her song at a steady pace

Y

He took her hand as gently as he dared

And her pale blue eyes fixed him with a steady stare

His arms went about in a warm embrace

Drinking in the sight of her beautiful face

¤

Far away, out past the sea

The two sang harmoniously

The woman with the raven hair

Fell to the man with the gentle stare

Y

All day long, they held each other

Only aware of one another

Never aware of the other song

Trying to reach them like a terrible gong

¤

Far away, out past the sea

A woman sang of her agony

Even though she was a sage

Her form was bent from old age

Y

She screamed her anguish to the sky

Her old voice crying out, “Why?”

She proclaimed her pain to the world

While the harsh wind around her swirled

¤

Far away, out past the sea

The frail old woman took a knee

Her dearest love was forever lost

And slowly her heart turned into frost

Y

Her magic now grew cold and black

She now hated the light, and swore never to go back

Everywhere she went, she cried

And everywhere, a child died

¤

Far away, out past the sea

Life once existed peacefully

Now war rules in all the land

Now all is black, hope hangs by a strand

Y

Only the couple on the beach remain

Their love for one another free of stain

They both sing to the clear blue sky

Their love for each other will never die

Wow... just wow...

The emotion in this peace comes across so strongly. And the contrast between Camarie and the couple on the beach is really good too. Really loved this poem!

Somehow like "Romeo and Juliet" reversed... all die but the two of them. Might this dark, raging woman be the speaker of your poem "Waiting"? Anyway, it is a beautifull yet dark story you tell... you really have a dark touch, i assure you. But not without hope, i see. Keep it up 2

:-) Natalie Beth Myers replies: "yeah. now that you mention it...it does sound like Romeo and Juliet. LOL! no, actually this woman is Camarie. she was a human woman who fell in love with the elf prince. she had a dark power hidden inside her, so, to bring it out, three creatures had to kill her husband, Calian. this did bring the power out in her, and she later almost obliterated all the elves, and the few that lived barely escaped her wrath. the two on the beach were an elf and a human also, but neither have such a catastrophic end. That was very good, I thought I’d change the pace and read your poems =) the imagery was vivid, and the emotion was strong!

Hey, I like this poem. Really nice description. Even more interesting is your response to Thomas Berndhauser. I never would have thought that Camarie from your story: "The Fall of Ilthidid" was the old woman. This poem is a way of looking through the old woman’s eyes and seeing a lost love and hatred in the young couple on the beach. After all, three creatures killed her husband, Calian 13. I can see some bitterness in her.
I too like the darkness.

23 Natalie Beth Myers replies: "yes, darkness. MWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!
*ahem* sorry. yeah, who’d have thought? "
