well, how many times have you seen faeries with moth or butterfly wings? quite often i would suppose. now how often do you see the catipillars that these wonderful creatures come from? not often if at all, right? well, you're in luck! i have managed to find a few Acrea Catipillar Fae crawling around in my lavender bushes.

these are the first and second instars, the smaller one is how they appear straight out of the egg and is also smaller than shown here. they are barely visible and much care must be taken to not crush them when looking for them. the second instar here is a little under 1cm in height, to get to this stage they mainly grow in height in preperation for the third and final instar.

Now that is creative. Indeed i have not seen a catapiller drawn in quite some time. I'm trying to picture those with the spokes on them and thought they were red and orange. Perhaps there are more than those i have seen. Never the less, well done.

:-) Nathaniel S. Summers replies: "Thanks! ^_^ There are certainly several kinds of catipillars. This one is modeled off of the catipillar of the Acrae Moth. I acutally did base the coloring of these little buggers off of some that I found myself."

Decidedly strange and wonderful.

Why is it that people can mix human anatomy with that of a cat, horse, or fish and recieve high praise, but when you mix it with an insect suddenly you're "on drugs"? lol... Strange.

Anyway, I just wanted to give you kudos for your very original and nifty idea. It's fun following the progression of growth. And the baby is so darn cute! Who would have thought that itwould turn into the sexy bombshell moth? (Sexy bombshell moth? ... Now THERE's a phrase I never thought I'd use.)

Keep up the original concepts! I love 'em!

Shwee!! I like it! It's adorable! Especially the little one (I definitely agree with the suggestions of doing the bebe one in lilacs or eating greenery... or better yet, both!). You show a masterful skill in anatomy, with these bizarrely beautiful Caterpillar humanoids.

Great concept, and the heads are so lifelike! I can really see the caterpillar in this, which might be a bit harder with some of the fae around.

I think the picture looks kinda scary, i think it looks like a alien.

You always draw your people facing the left... maybe you should experiment and draw them facing the other direction....
otherwise your art is awesome...
