The picture for the Bifrost - Greek mythology project.
I read through greek and roman stories which I had never seen before and I noticed that both aren`t easy to distinguish. They have a lot of stories which are almost the same with different names for the characters and gods. Finally I chose one called 'Athamas'. Read it for yourself if you want to know the details.
Depicted here are Leukothea and her son Palaimon former known as Ino and Melikertes. Ino jumped from the cliff into the sea where they both drowned (she had reasons for this deed!) but Zeus who recalled her kindness to Dionysos made them gods. In another story it Neptun, the ocean god who did this and so you can see him in the background of my pic. Very confusing the whole thing but I like the pic!

You have a wonderfully unique style! I really love the composition of this work! The colors are beautiful! This drawing has a very surreal quality to it!

:-) Nat Gellert replies: "Thank you! I am positively surprised by the relation to surrealism."

really great pic, I like the poseidon face in the background very much! (though, if I as the poor little sketcher can tell =P -maybe his mouth would be better a little broader?) anyway- great how you did the face and sweet that also the rainbow is there =) looks greek indeedy!

:-) Nat Gellert replies: "Thanks; however...I won`t change it anymore!"

Awesome. This is quite a beautiful piece. Let's see: your style and approach to the story is captivating--the watercolors are delicate (Love the woman's green eyes and red lips), it's very emotional. Good job!

I'm happy to see that someone portrayed a more obscure piece of Greek mythology. I love your style. I recognize a definite Klimt influence, but the style is decidedly unique. I like it all, but I think my favorite bit is the wavy lines in the background face, their wiggly variations are delicious.

nice idea to create a face out of the sea. I like it but I do not like the childs face. it´s alittel bit scary ´cause it reminds me of an alien or sth. like that. but nevertheless a nice coloring. hang on!

heya there again! U left me a chalange in my gallery - to come and to check out your mythology pic - and i must admit - I loveeeeeeee your pic and style - of course i remember the story - ino was one of semele's (mother of dyonisos) sisters - that was jelous or didn't belived to semele was zeus lover - so they told her to ask zeus to apear in his all glory - and so semele died - burned to death - her son survived And ino helped to rise him.
Well ino herself got married to king Athamas, that got tired of his first wife - that cried to hera about this.
But there was olso a problem - they got famine - and they were said that they must to sacrafise one of the children from the first wife (ino bribrd the mesanger that came from oracle) - in the end they were saved - but thats another story. Safice to say that ino wanted this sacrafice beecouse she wanted one of her children to have the trone later.
Hera were angry at Nrphele the first wife and on Ino becouse she helped to rise dyonisos, so sed strack athamas with madness - and he killed one of his sones from ino, Ino was scared so she took the second son - melicertes, and in anguish jumped with him into a river and drawned.
Zeus, didn't wanted her to go to tartarus - so he turned her to to sea godess - Leucotha (the white godesses) and her son to palaemon. In other version - Ino were strack with madness hersef - and she boiled her so and only then she drawned.
In any case - all her family hada bad luck - some say it is becouse dyonisos - that wasn't someone safe to be near.
Hope u like that 18

:-) Nat Gellert replies: "Thank you for this comment!Further people now can read the whole story and that`s quite nice!"
