It’s the same basic principle behind how a character in an RPG can get shot, stabbed, thrown a mile into the air and hit the ground, detonated, frozen, and whatever the hell else you can think of, and not die or receive serious injuries. Like Superman they have an invisible aura covering every inch of their body which protects them from harm, unlike Superman this aura isn’t fuelled by solar irradiated cells, it is directly tied to their lifeforce and if it receives to many hits the person simply drops dead and is thrown back in time to when they last they spoke to a big shiny crystal.
