Though my IB art course does it's best to devour all of my 'art time' I am BACK on Elfwood!!! And what better way to celebrate Elfwood's new design and section merge than a tribute to China Mieville's work? (Can't wait for Iron Council!) This is another take on Mieville's cactus-people, the Cactacae. I designed and sketched and kept sketching until I ran out of page (don' you hate it when that happens!?...and I had such cool boots for him too...). Oh well, that said, this is a pretty good gauge of where I am artistically at the moment (I actually think it's one of my best pieces on Elfwood). I'm working on my design and general form...And yes, I admit, I did recently break out the Battle Chasers back issues, and Joe Mad's awesome artwork is what inspired my return to Eflwood. Hope you all like this! (Oh, and please excuse the lame 90s song reference) ;)

That is so cool. VERY well done, and the whole idea... wow. I live in Southern California, so normally I'm a little sick of desert stuff, but this is majorly awesome.

:-) Nicholas William Kole replies: "Cool. I just had to have some image in my head for these characters other than those dancing Final Fantasy cactuses...<shudder>"

I'm just about done reading the first book, and I like the story a lot! I imagined the Cactacae looking a bit more like those really tall cactuses in the desert, but this is cooler 12
You should maybe try doing that multi-colored slug-thing that the main character kept in a cage or those things in the tower towards the end of the book (tome 1)

Keep up the good work!!!

:-) Nicholas William Kole replies: "There's TONS I want to illustrate from Mieville's work...but a friend has my copy of PSS right now....so it's all on hold 8"

Cactus men. I mean - cactus, man!? It sounds so lame and my imagination blocked when it was given the impossible task to imagine something so...you know. But looking at the pic, I am bound to admit, that I was wrong. Yep, wrong i was. There could be cactus men. And this one is just...right. Grat pose and expression, excellent job on the props and clothes. And keep surprising me 12

Dude I had the same damn thought of those FF7 cactus guys when I read PSS, that is until I saw your guy. It made it a lot easier to read the book when I wasn't thiking about those little FF7 cactus in their retarded little running pose. Great Work man!
