This is Gratch, the baby gar from Terry Goodkind's Stone of Tears; the tirth book from the magic law series. Richard, the main caracter, is being attacked by a huge monsterbeast called a shorttail gar (kaai in the dutch translations). He killes it, but finds out the beast had a babychild...Gratch... It runs to the corpse crying and full of fear. Richard desides to leave it there. Then two huge male gars land at the corpse, ripping it in two and takes it away. Now...Gratch is really alone. That's the moment I wanted to draw the creature..all alone with his misery. Richard will feed it later on in the story, so it survives :D And please don't be misguided by his cuteness!!! Like lioncubs, they are nice and fuzzy. but this beast will grow to a two meter large monster with sharp claws and teeth! Hunting with his bloodflies in the woods. one massive bunch of brown fur and musscles! oh yes, can you find the bloodflies in this picture? hehe!

I love those books! Gratch is so cute, and I am glad Richard took him into his care. The picture looks great, I love the emotion you captured on his face. I too am an artist, and I love this site. I love the picture, it is very good. You captured the mood very well too. I have also noticed there is a first comment dance thing...

Stone of Tears was honestly my favorite of the Sword of Truth Series, though I’m only on the fifth book, The Soul of the Fire. Great pic!
