Catherine Noble Beyer

Catherine recently received her MA in History in Wisconsin. She has also provided illustrations for a number of role-playing books and is currently available for commissioned work.

As a serious roleplayer for almost 20 years, my artwork has tended to reflect favorite characters of myself and friends. I find RPG characters a terrific source of subject matter because so much detail has already been envisioned for them. Feel free to contact me if you would be interested in character portraiture. I am also now selling prints! If you're interested in a copy of something not currently in my store, just contact me and I will be happy to add it to the merchandise.

I grew up on the artwork of Larry Elmore. However, as I found my own style I discovered that I preferred graphite pencil and have therefore taken quite an interest in the work Douglas Shuler, one of the few professional artists I've seen work extensively in that media.

My appreciation, you have a number of very fine quality works in your folio, and looking at your work I see you moving through your journey, and finding constant improvement in your skills and I think, in expressing your visions.
Blessings,
Marion

I think your detail is very beautiful and captivating..But your people are slightly out of proportion...Hands and arms are a bit small..Or is it just your style?

9 Catherine Noble Beyer replies: "Calling it a "style" would be a cop out. I have difficulty getting the proportion of hands and arms correct (Heads also tend to have a problem)"

As pointed out before: the arms and hands. I often comment on this because the gods know I have worked on that since I started drawing! In the fairy-picture it works very well, she looks lithe and pretty, but I think the trick is to take looks at yourself in the mirror. And, even if thin wrists are beautiful imo, the hand should be able to almost cover a face. Fingers excluded, it should cover the cheek. Also, the feet ned not be big, but approximate them to less than the lower arm of a character.
Now, I'm just being picky and trying to give some not-very-needed "constructive criticism". Really, you pencilwork is wonderful. I love the few coloured pictures.

hi there!

You have alot of talent, i really like your work, but you seem to have a lack of technique, talking about some human body proportions and disposition.

Some practice in this an you'll be a master soon. 12 Cmome visit my gallery, by the way! ^_^

Hello, I love your art! It's been said before, but you are incredibly talented. it looks like you are already on your way to becoming a professional. I wish I could do that, but I don't think I'm good enough. I love the shading and etail of your work.

If you like Doug Shuler, go to www.imageNETion.com. They have a large gallery of fantasy artists and a large number work in graphite. They also showcase some comic artists that do graphite fantasy art.

Hi there,
I'm a former elfwood artist, just trying to get my name off the internet. I think i commented on your piece, "eclipse", and I would really appreciate it if you could remove my comment...
