My own version of the Phoenix craft from Gatchaman/Battle of the Planets. I loved the new designs for the 90's Gatchaman, but in this piece I tried to make the Phoenix more recognisable as the original, while still being more futuristic.

I love the designs from the 94 OAV as well. Supercool! But this is a very well done design as well. It's fascinating how you've taken the exact same starting point and come up with something completely different, yet just as recognizable as the Phoenix as the 94 OAV version. Actually, in certain ways, you are correct, and this is closer to the original in terms of recognizability. The 94 OAV Phoenix did away with the top pair of red fins, which you've kept. You've also kept more of the original wing structure than the 94 OAV version, with it's complicated "swing wing" design. I see you've got an actual obvious "windshield" for the cockpit area instead of having an enclosed command center with viewscreens. And just behind that part of the ship, the hull sort of narrows in a "Coke Bottle" fashion, at the same time being much more flattened out and losing the boxy structure of the original. In fact, the nose now vaguely reminds me of Wildstar's "Super Star" starfighter from Starblazers. Interesting how you've placed the intakes for the jets on the top of the wing instead of the bottom. And are those vectored thrust nozzles at the back end? That's actually very modern and very much a "stealth" modification. Overall, I like the "clean" design look here. Both the original Phoenix and the 94 OAV version looked way cool, but almost had too much aerodynamic "laundry hanging out to dry". This looks far more integrated and smooth. And actually looks _stronger_ than either of the other versions. Like it could take more of a pounding and hold together. I love that sort of sleek look. Oh yeah, and where the heck did you get that beautiful background? Hey, why don't you pop over to my page and take a peek at my drawing entitled "Minerva 2" for something similar and tell me what you think?

If I ever come to build a spaceship, I would ask you to design it! This is fantastic!

**peers up at the Phoenix ** As an old-time fan of the series, and owning the new as well... They should have come to YOU to redesign the Phoenix! This version, IMHO, is FAR superior to the 94 OAV! You nailed down exactly what you set out to do with this one! Keep it up!
