SciFi and Fantasy Art Nebula by Nikki van de Pol

This is one of my gryphon characters: Nebula (Latin for mist, fog), in human years she'd be 21 and here you can see her looking out over her territory, searching for possible intruders.

Entirely made in graphite pencil, my favourite medium, on request of my boyfriend, who was also the one nagging about the need for a detailed background (I officially HATE trees now ;) ) It is also my first gryphon drawing ever so I hope you guys like it! I tried to make her as realistic as possible. Colour suggestions for her feathers & fur are welcome as well, since up till now I'm finding it quite an impossible mission :S

Nebula as a character design is © to myself, please don't steal.

But I have to confess, the hard outline was more of a necessity than some kind of artistic ’brilliancy’ The various parts of the drawing were flowing over in each other too much without them. "

Nikki van de Pol replies: "Well, actually they’re clouded leopard spots... at least, that’s what they’re meant to be, but I’m glad you like them that much all the same And it’s still far from perfect, so I’ll just help you hope to get better at it than me Thanks for such a lovely compliment. "

24 Apr 2009	Rebekah Lynn Plowman	Loading... its very nice, and the detail work is very good indeed! i have drawn a gryphon before, and not that long ago, but i put no background, and the gryphon has dragon-like wings and a dragon-like tail instead of bird-like. Nikki van de Pol replies: "Thanks Actually, the detail is sort of a problem as well, unless I draw in a cartoon or anime style I seem to be unable to not make everything as detailed as my pencil allows, and that’s the main reason it takes me enormous amounts of time to get anything finished... Your gryphon idea sounds very original, let me know when you upload it, I’m getting curious "

7 Mar 2010	Rebekah Lynn Plowman	Loading... Heh heh. I finally got around to uploading my gryphon. I kept forgetting. I just uploaded it, so it won’t be up for a while, if it’s published that is.
