This is one of my gryphon characters: Nebula (Latin for mist, fog), in human years she'd be 21 and here you can see her looking out over her territory, searching for possible intruders.

Entirely made in graphite pencil, my favourite medium, on request of my boyfriend, who was also the one nagging about the need for a detailed background (I officially HATE trees now ;) ) It is also my first gryphon drawing ever so I hope you guys like it! I tried to make her as realistic as possible. Colour suggestions for her feathers & fur are welcome as well, since up till now I'm finding it quite an impossible mission :S

Nebula as a character design is © to myself, please don't steal.

This picture received Mod's Choice on 11th August 2008. Thanks a lot moderators!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sweet! I made a gryphon like this some time ago. I like yours quite a lot! ^_^
Oh and don’t worry about people who say you need a background. You don’t really. Though, may I say you are quite good at them. 12

:-) Nikki van de Pol replies: "*boyfriend in the background: see, see, I TOLD you people would like a background, I TOLD you!* 12 Thanks a lot for the wonderful compliment. "

aw, gorgeous!!! great work with the shading, and the effect of the hard black outline and the soft shading!

:-) Nikki van de Pol replies: "Thanks! 1 But I have to confess, the hard outline was more of a necessity than some kind of artistic ’brilliancy’ 14 12 The various parts of the drawing were flowing over in each other too much without them. "

This is beautiful! I especially like the giraffe spots on the fur! JK, it’s really super good. I hope one day I can get gryphons down like you can!

:-) Nikki van de Pol replies: "Well, actually they’re clouded leopard spots... at least, that’s what they’re meant to be, but I’m glad you like them that much all the same 2 And it’s still far from perfect, so I’ll just help you hope to get better at it than me 2 Thanks for such a lovely compliment. "

Wow! very amazing, I love the pattern of fur and all the wonderful details!

:-) Nikki van de Pol replies: "Thanks a lot Anna! This was my first gryphon ever, so I’m really glad you like it! 2"

its very nice, and the detail work is very good indeed! i have drawn a gryphon before, and not that long ago, but i put no background, and the gryphon has dragon-like wings and a dragon-like tail instead of bird-like.

:-) Nikki van de Pol replies: "Thanks 2 Actually, the detail is sort of a problem as well, unless I draw in a cartoon or anime style I seem to be unable to not make everything as detailed as my pencil allows, and that’s the main reason it takes me enormous amounts of time to get anything finished... 16 12

Your gryphon idea sounds very original, let me know when you upload it, I’m getting curious 2"

An awesome creature. You’re a master at shading.

:-) Nikki van de Pol replies: "Thanks a lot! Especially for the shading compliment. It means a lot cause I’m really trying to get better at that. And of course I’m glad you like the character as well. 2"

This is personally one of the best grypgons I’ve seen thats been completely done in graphite. Well done! I applaude your determination (even if it makes you hate trees). =3

:-) Nikki van de Pol replies: "Thanks a lot for such a great compliment! I’m really glad you like it that much. *falls silent for a bit* ... I still secretely hate the trees though 12"

Heh heh. I finally got around to uploading my gryphon. I kept forgetting. I just uploaded it, so it won’t be up for a while, if it’s published that is.

And it is wierd looking with little detail. I drew it in art class, what can I say? *shrugs*
