Also known as a kelpie, an tEach Uisce is a very nasty water demon.  Appearing as a horse to young men it would entice them onto it's back and then drag them to their deaths beneath the waves.  In some tales they can also appear as a handsome yougn man to maidens, only distiguishable by traces of seaweed in his hair.

This sculpture is around 6 inches tall and 9 inches long.  Like all my sculptures this is mostly super sculpey painted in acrylics, the seaweed mane and tail are made of cold porcelain which is a cornstarch based clay that is much more flexible and forgiving for thin areas than super sculpey.  I admit that it's not a very enticing horse I know I'd never get on it's back, my intention was to show the kelpie at it worst, maybe walking along the shore gloating over it's most recent victim.

I like it, and I'm surprised you know what an each uisce is. There are very few of them in Elfwood! But then I have a fondness for these critters, there are a couple in my gallery. I've been told that the difference between Kelpie and the Each Uisge (alternate sp? or different language?) is that kelpie lives in running water, rivers, streams, and the other prefers still deep water, lakes, ponds... and the Each Uisge is the one that always eats people and often leaves the liver or other organs remains on the shore. Kelpies sometimes play pranks and let the people go?
