Hiding behind her covers she hoped she wouldn't recognise her... this was nor the time nor the place to be seen! And while Leila wasn't a sorceress yet she was keen and aware of everything around her. Please let her not look this way Tara thought.. please!

Facial study done in Acrylics to practice; and inspired by some pictures of african women I saw. Somehow this is so perfectly envisioning of what I though Tara (who is a young mindreader and stonecaster and a character from the book I'm writing) would be like that I simply had to try to put what was in my mind on paper. I'm very proud! Please ignore the slight scan lines I really tried my best!

Hi Meike,

I don't know much about drawing and art (in fact I don't know anything) but this picture grabs your attention and doesn't let go. I like all your work and think you are gifted...keep on dreaming and drawing!!!

:-) Meike de Nooy replies: "Thankyou for your kind words. I'm glad you like her so much.. so do I.. I's the only piece I ever made in that size that I never got bored with! It kept me intrested all the way through! Hope to see you arounds again! (you dutch BTW?)"

this is very good, i like how u used the entire page...this should get mods choice!!! Everthing about it is beautiful..this is one of my favorites!

:-) Meike de Nooy replies: "Maybe I should admit.. I was hoping that if I would ever get a mods choice again this would have to be the one.. but I suppose I'm not really a mods choice 10 I'm glad you would think it should be one though! And how did you mean the entire page? you mean the length of it? well anyway! Thanks for stopping by!"

The special format of the pic and its wonderful colours are really striking.
I like it very much (especially since I am useless with colors ..)
What is the original size?

:-) Meike de Nooy replies: "I think it's my masterpiece for the moment... it'a about 30 by 60 cm.. It was really nice to try to make it as african as possible!"

Wonderful. No more words. Is so full of life! Quiet and moving at the same time... Incredible work.

Keep up!!!!

:-) Meike de Nooy replies: "Well.. I think africans inspire me. The colours and the way of life there is so different and more relaxed from ours. And then I love the subtle expressions in faces and eyes!!!"

Did you know that Tara means star in Indian? (I'm not indian myself, I just got it from a tv-show)

The colouring is great, it's not often you see black people pictured in the woods...good thing that there is some!

:-) Meike de Nooy replies: "No! I didn't know that! Very nice! thanks! anduhhhmm... I love drawing black people... maybe it's because I grew up in Africa but they are so beautiful! I have an african angel somewhere too!"

I love this! she has a great face impression and I love the colours! I like drawing africans too, but I always have troubles to get them look african...2

:-) Meike de Nooy replies: "Try using references.. it works better after you have tried a few.. then it becomes easier without them too!"

The coloring is so stark and nice, and the way it is "pieced" together is really an interesting technique.

:-) Meike de Nooy replies: "hounestly.. I made up this technique to avoid having to make shades with a nice gradient.. beacuse the paint dries so fast it's hardly possible and this lends it a nice look too! Thanks!"

This is sooooo cool!D
even the style you have chosen to do the piece in reflects the situation (soz i can't be more specific, i just can't think of any better way to say it).

Anyway, great pic, and what is a stonecaster?
