| 28 May 2009 | Tom Draco Noir Taylor | Loading...Very nice gallery, Ingrid! Have some dear friends here in the U.S. named Haglund- wonder if it is an American Mis-spelling of your Surname? At any rate, fine colorful and creative artwork, also look forward to any new posts you have. Ingrid Haugland replies: "Thank you very much I’m in the middle of my exams right now, so I ‘m not able to finish any ongoing projects at the moment...Luckily summer holiday is just three weeks away.
When it comes to your friend’s name, Haglund, it’s probably not a misspelling but another Scandinavian name. It’s probably a place-name, like mine. I live in a small place called Haugland It’s very common to have place-names as surnames here. If you don’t have a place-name, you’re likely to be named something which ends in -sen (that is the Norwegian version of –son)
There’s one thing that shows that the names are not connected: Haugland can be divided into haug and land, which can be translated to hill and (obviously) land, while lund in Haglund means grove. So it’s probably not the same place. I’m not sure you’ll find Haglund on a map though. Surnames often come from areas just a few square kilometres in size, like a part of a town or rural district. Then again, who knows? " | |
