The Forest King sits upon his throne deep in the wild wood, far away from the world of men, he does not rule, but is one with the trees, the grass and the earth.
For this I wanted to a more original depiction of the green man, where one really felt his form had grown out of nature. I'm very happy with how he turned out and the way the tree and its branches flow to create the form of the King. I wanted to take it far enough that it was hard initially to work out there was man but that it didn't just look like a normal tree. In fact I'm very pleased with the whole composition and it's one of my favorites, I particularly like how the pen work turned out and the different sizes of nib allowing the foreground to really stand out.
At the time of posting this is my latest illustration piece.
