| 2 Oct 2004 | Syn | Loading...It's a wonderful picture! I realy love the work you've done, and the head position and everything! Only one thing thought... If it's a dunalino, wouldn't the mane be a lighter shade? Christy a. osborne replies: "No. A dun horse has a darker or equal shade of mane and tale with darker or equal shade legs and snout...A palamino, however has a lighter shade (flaxen) mane and tale and can have white markings on the face and feet. A dunalino coloration would be the same as having a palamino with a darker mane and tale (sometimes even having a dark stripe down it's back....but that's mostly - if not exclusive - on a buckskin)....And, to go a bit farther into coloration...I do belive that if the mane and tail are the same pale shade of creme as the rest of the horse (with or without white markings) would be considered a cremelo." | |
| 21 Sep 2005 | Amy E. Skewes | Loading...Actually.... Yes...a Dunalino is a Palomino/Dun.. But.. Dunalinos do have the white mane and tail. A dunalino is a red dun with the cream gene (which causes the palomino color on red, or 'chestnut' horses), or, put another way, a palomino with the dun gene. Which means your horse would be palomino colored, maybe slightly darker, with the white mane and tail, and a dorsal stripe (dorsal stripes are a dun thing...few true buckskins have them) As for cremello...that would be a palomino with a double cream gene, causing the palomino color to dilute, making the horse appear nearly white. Sorry..lol...I've been studying equine color lately. As for the picture....I think he is just beautiful, whatever color he is. Especially the appy freckles...or maybe he is a shade of champagne? And great wings | |
