Guarding the world from the forces of darkness is an arduous task. The Keeps of Light were established across the realm to assist in keeping a watchful eye over the land. Each tower belongs to one mage, a wizard that has dedicated his life to the preservation of the land and animals under his vigilant eyes. For his life-long sacrifice he is given many gifts to assist in his daily tasks, and nothing can escape his watchful eyes. While I had completed another piece in pastel, Penultimate Fantasy, I hadn't really gotten into the complications of pastels and their nuances. I consider this to be my first true pastel work, and I have to give credit to A.B. Word and Barrie Bryant for allowing me to apprentice with them recently.

That is a very beautiful drawing in many ways. Because it depicts an aged man, but still beautiful. It has a beautiful landscape, the tower is amazing, the composition is really good. You did a great job!

I had no idea something so beautiful and detailed could be done with pastels. Kudos! =0) Can i apprentice under you? Please?!

Love the old man's face. The forest and flowers are excellent too, and the tower is also well-drawn (though I find the design a little too impractical and over-the-top, and it kind of jars with the naturalism in the rest of the picture). You're lighting is also really good.

This is such a random thing to pick up on, but the leather strap on his shoulder might as well be a photograph, it’s so well rendered lol.

Wow, I saw this from the thumbnail, and I though it was one of those computer-done 3d things. Then I clicked it, and.... wow. It’s so realistic, and so fantastical and artistic at the same time. I love the sweeping background; it really gives the idea of distance and depth. Excellent!

Have you read Patricia McKillip’s Riddle Master trilogy? This makes me think of that..one of the land rulers, named Danan, who can transform into a tree. Stunning, beautifully detailed work!! Very inspiring and full of magic.
