SciFi and Fantasy Art Eyes of the Land by Paul Bielaczyc

Guarding the world from the forces of darkness is an arduous task. The Keeps of Light were established across the realm to assist in keeping a watchful eye over the land. Each tower belongs to one mage, a wizard that has dedicated his life to the preservation of the land and animals under his vigilant eyes. For his life-long sacrifice he is given many gifts to assist in his daily tasks, and nothing can escape his watchful eyes. While I had completed another piece in pastel, Penultimate Fantasy, I hadn't really gotten into the complications of pastels and their nuances. I consider this to be my first true pastel work, and I have to give credit to A.B. Word and Barrie Bryant for allowing me to apprentice with them recently.

The forest and flowers are excellent too, and the tower is also well-drawn (though I find the design a little too impractical and over-the-top, and it kind of jars with the naturalism in the rest of the picture). You're lighting is also really good.

It’s so realistic, and so fantastical and artistic at the same time. I love the sweeping background; it really gives the idea of distance and depth. Excellent!
16 Jan 2010	Jessica Owen	Loading... Have you read Patricia McKillip’s Riddle Master trilogy? This makes me think of that..one of the land rulers, named Danan, who can transform into a tree. Stunning, beautifully detailed work!! Very inspiring and full of magic.
