Tag As FavoriteComment		Pastels and colored pencils. Completed middle January, 2006, this illustration will be featured as a cover for an upcoming issue of Apex Digest. It is an illustration for a Kevin J. Anderson story titled Sum of His Parts. This is a retelling of the Frankenstein story, not just the story of the creation, but the stories of the history of the parts of the creation. A great take on Frankenstein. This is the moment of the creation's birth, the strike of lightning that sends life into the monster's body. The sleepy village sits down below, unaware of the monumental event transpiring above.

I'm quite surprised this piece hasn't gotten any comments yet. Your technique with pastel and coloured pencil is astounding. The depth that you've achieved in creating this is really jaw-dropping. Excellent artistry Paul!

This has got to be one of the most astonishing pieces I've ever seen... If I had to pick a picture that was the absolute incarnation of a certain word, and the word was 'dramatic', I'd pick this. The chaotic, stormy clouds... The glaring moon... The village peeking out from the shadow of the ominous castle, and the lightning... True perfection here, marvelous work.

LOVE this piece! Wow, now I'm really impressed. The colors are what do it, not only with the lightning but also the varied gently blues of the forest and village below. Clouds are also quite effective. You've a knack for preserving the aura of a scene, and I think this is one of your finest examples here.
