He stood, his black frame silhouetted against the pewter moonlight. He snorted delicately as he looked out over the village. Down below the slumbering child lay waiting. He shook his heavy mane and flexed his dark wings.

Spreading their inky expanse he leapt from the small cliff and with a sweep lifted himself into the air. He circled once.....twice....staring down at the house. He shook his horn. He always hated this part. Someone had to lead them. Someone had to teach them. He knew with this one it would be harder than with the others. She was so young. She was so very young...but all the more reason he could not let her die of the lung sickness. She would learn quickly and though she would not die. She would never grow up. Immortality. Gift and curse. Perhaps Le'shaat would help him. He looked down at the house one more time. Perhaps.

He folded his wings in close and circled once more.....

That's an interesting story. Is it based on anything? I recall reading a similar story once, but perhaps that is just the nature of the creature. It's a beautiful drawing - Charcoal can be a beast to wirk with.

Was the origonal paper Grey? I find that using a white and a black as your only mediums can produce images with a lot of feeling in them, and this one is no exception.

Beautiful image!

1 Stephanie 'Pegacorna' Small replies: "Comment From The Unicorn: Thank you! The original paper was black, but it is fairly old. The story was completely made up for the picture. Perhaps some day I will write it. May the horn be with you (hehe)"

I can't believe someone can do something like this with chalk and charcoal! I thought it was photoshopped at first, but this is way better.

i draw horses a LOT, but never are they this good!!! wow, how is it even possible to do that!!!??? i got a charcoal set a couple months ago, and i never realised how much detail it can bring to pictures.

:-) Stephanie 'Pegacorna' Small replies: "Charcoals not an easy medium sometimes. Thank you. I have kind of left for Deviant Art http://pegacorna2.deviantart.com/ since they offer prints and such, but thank you for visiting my Elfwood page. I think that you are an extremely talented drawer. Continue with your drawing. This is by far the best unicorn I have ever seen!
