This picture had been up in my gallery a while back, but I removed it, as it was showing its age. However, I've had a number of requests for it, so I decided to re-upload it. The character is the enigmatic Amber, from Robin Hobb's wonderful trilogy 'The Liveship Traders.' She's a worker in wood, and a pivotal character in the series. I asked Ms Hobb for permission to portray her characters, and she graciously gave permission. Medium: Painter 6, downsized from the original.

To those who are wondering:  Yes, I know now who Amber really is, but I did not at the time I drew this picture.

This picture is truely amazing you never fail to impress me i adore all of your peices. I admire the hands, i am an artist too and i know how difficult it is to perfect the hands-- and as you commented in another coment they are either great or they stink and there is no in between but your hands are truely great. I love the face and the clothing too, i think she is beautiful. As much as i love all of your work and this on too i dont like the different colored beads but the rest of the picture is so great it doesnt really matter. I also love her body language, it shows that she is famished or mayber poor or completely different- a type of healer. Well keep up the amazing work i am a big fan of yours!Thank you for your kind words, Jess. 2 As for the beads, I was following the description in Robin Hobb's book, "Ship of Magic," in which Amber is portrayed as a worker in wood, and in one scene her string of multi-colored wooden beads is mentioned.

Does anyone apart from me know that Amber is the fool aka Lord Golden from the Farseer books? Great picture though! wish i could draw like you, the shading is amazing

This is simply marvelous... the colors and lighting just jump right off the page... they really give you that warm "woodsy" feeling. (Sorry, couldn't quite find the right word.) 'Amber' was by far my fave character of the Liveship trilogy... which was funny, because I read them before the other 6 books (all out of order, I know), and a particular character from the Farseer and Tawny Man books was my other favorite, until I made a certain connection.... *wink*

PS - Do you have an account on Deviantart? I recently started a DA Robin Hobb Fanclub, and this would be an absolutely gorgeous piece to include in the club's gallery! (If you'd like to know more, click on the link on my name.)I'm so glad you like her - thanks very much. 2 As a matter of fact, I have a DeviantArt gallery, under the name gothika248, but I haven't uploaded Amber there. Basically, this was due to the fact that this version is really old and I had planned a new one. However, I haven't done any new pieces for a year, and I have so many plans for new pictures I don't even know when I'll get time to start them. Unfortunately there's only one of me, and a million different things I have to do. 12

I love it soo much. Everytime I think of the Liveship Traders your image of Amber is how I always picture her. It took my breath away when I saw her! Please create more of the characters from the Liveship Traders as you bring my imagination of them to reality!Thank you, Jessica. 2 I am long overdue for some new Liveship pictures, as well as some characters from Robin Hobb's Farseer Saga. I am going to try to get some done soon.

I love the colours used and it is a beautiful representation. One wonders though, that it may be a little too feminine, considering 'Ambers' true male identity as the fool...Yes, definitely too feminine. However, this picture was drawn several years ago, and I had read only the Liveship trilogy. This was done even before the Farseer books were completed, so the Amber/Fool connection had not even been confirmed. If I can work up enough motivation, I would like to replace this picture with a new version some day.

all in all....there is a nice amber feel to it...

is it amber around her neck??10Those beads are actually made of wood. In the Liveship trilogy, Amber crafts jewelry and other items from wood, and a description from the book speaks of her wearing a string of wooden, coloured beads.
