| OK, both parts here now... Thanks BadCat for your idea for part II. Everything in the second part is her work, apart from the actual words, down to the Dragon burning his dinner... Find her art here. |

The fair Sir Fendrik, strong and brave
Was just, for honor was his crave
His sword was sharp, his armour bright
His shield was hard, his stallion white
-
Away he rode into the dawn
Towards Adventure he was drawn
To stab the Dragon with his blade
And win the freedom of his maid
-
Now as he neared the Dragon’s mound
And heard the Dragon’s snoring sound
He cried: “Come out, ye Dragon foul!”
So that the Dragon heard his scowl
-
The Dragon came and saw the knight
And thought “This looks an easy fight
A shining knight in full attire
I think I’ll roast him with my fire”
-
But witful Fendrik knew the game
His did expect the Dragon’s flame
Hence, as the Dragon gaped its maw
A splash of water struck its jaw
-
For fair Sir Fendrik, wise as few
He knew, that dragons fire spew
Before he had the Dragon sought
A pail of water he had brought
-
The wyrm, perplexed, cried “Lo behold!
Ye do surprise me, twentyfold!
In my days, many knights I’ve fought
But none of them had water brought!”
Part II
Sir Fendrik cried “Come on, ye snake!”
“I’ll make of you a Dragon steak!”
And on he rushed with sword and shield
To force the Dragon foul to yield
-
A struggle broke out, strong and fierce
The knight did not succeed to pierce
The hardness of the Dragon scale
His sharp sword did not him avail
-
The struggle raged, from day to night
And no one seemed to win the fight
The Dragon could not use his fire
And Fendrik seemed not prone to tire
-
But at last Fedrik Fair did find
That though the scales protect the hind
Each Dragon has a weaker spot
Each flawless armour has a blot
-
He thrust at it with expertise
And brought the Dragon to its knees
“Haha!” he cried, “There’s no retreat!”
“This fight did end with your defeat!”
-
“Enough now!” sounded a shrill cry
“I really cannot follow why”
“You men must always start to fight”
“From early dawn to latest night!”
-
It was the maiden who had called
And thus she had the struggle stalled
They looked at her, both wyrm and man
They simply did not understand
-
The maiden said: “If you conferred”
“With me to see what I preferred”
“You’d realize I never craved”
“To from this comfy mound be saved”
-
She said “Allthough he burns the food”
“And though his manners might be crude”
“The wyrm is friendly, I must say”
“That I do really wish to stay”
-
So Fendrik Fair returned forlorn
For maidens he had utter scorn
Their ways no man can comprehend
To those no man can see the end
