| 9 Mar 2008 | Rayne Devantry | I’ve been taking a look all over your gallery and I must say, not only did you capture my heart with your pencil’d black and white, but you’ve got an amazing talent. From Inuyasha to LOTR, and even some Egyptian mythology mixed in to it all. You do yourself injustice by saying you have little talent, for truly your talent exceeds such talk. I am not an artist by any means, but a writer of poetry and prose instead. If you wish you can go to http://daavmiester.deviantart.com and read some of my works. All there now are poetry, but I’m hoping to have the beginnings of a story I’ve been working on loaded up there soon-ish. Anyway, I didn’t mean to ramble on, but you’re are one of the better amazing artists I’ve seen in the Woods, and I’ve been traversing the Woods for a long while.
-Rayne Devantry Panu Hakkarainen replies: "Well, thank you Rayne. It is very nice to hear that you give my drawing skills so high credit. Yes, I have aquirred more talent during years but when compared some other pencil artists here, there are still a lot of work ahead. But I do my best...
Let me know when you have your story uploaded so I can come and take a peek. I have myself written over 100 pages long Middle earth related fan-novel, so I know that story writing requires also talent and patience. "
| 25 Mar 2008 | Maxine *piXel* Cox | Hey Panu - did you ever hear from my friend Ian Plumb about purchasing your darling Warrior from the North??? I ask ony because it was recently his birthday and I went to Melbourne and were out dining at a lovely little French restaurant, (Madame Sou Sou of all names) and the subject of artwork came up. Secretly (though I have told Ian), I have had framed up my 3 gals riding drawing for his wife Patricia who turns 40 in July. But I know how much Ian loves your challenger image.... do you sell or gift your artwork? or is it all for yours-elf Manu ? - oops there goes those silly pesky far too long fingernails again - Manu instead of Panu - oops again! ;-) maXine Panu Hakkarainen replies: "Hi Maxine! Now that you mention it I do remember that there was some discussion about the matter but I do not remember what was the outcome. I think that the blame is on me because I probaply forgot Ian’s request at the time being.
What comes to the picture itself I can not sell or gift the original but if a copy as jpg image (or any other digital format) would do that shouldn’t be a problem. And free of charge of course.
Hmm, I think I’ll contact Ian and ask about the matter...
P.S. How long fingernails you have Maxine??? The distance between M and P in the keyboard is quite... long."
| 25 Jun 2008 | Juhi dhar | I see why pencil works are close to your heart . I enjoyed your gallery very much, each piece told its own fascinating story. You’ve captured expressions perfectly And your work on the backgrounds is just wonderfull Panu Hakkarainen replies: "Hehe! Glad that you liked your visit in my gallery Juhi. Although I don’t know if I deserve so much praise. Especially the backgrounds are really hard for me to draw." | |
| 26 Jun 2008 | Juhi dhar | No No really you do . backrounds are tough to do especially by hand!!! I know but its something I mostly leave for the end because I enjoy the drawing of ppl more. and by the end I loose patience to do a background . thats something I am working on hahaha. Only thing I would say (and this probably has more to do with the scanning than the drawings) is that some of them do seem to be faded. for example the deepwood troll doll and deepwod character study are very bright and clear in comparison. I think maybe just increasing the brightness would work, but this has the drawback of loosing details as well. Panu Hakkarainen replies: "Yep, many of my pictures are "faded" as you say. There are several reasons for this. 1. The paper which I usually use has a "darkish" coat. 2. I have a bad habit to smudge the paper when I draw. In other words I "manage" to spread the pencil graphite all over the paper . 3. When I edit my pictures with the paint program I usually darken them because I like clear and strong lines. 4. I try also to clear the worst smudges away but like you said increasing brightness causes the loosing of details and soft "color" borders. Therefore most of my pictures are quite "dark".
And thank you for adding my picture to your favorites. "

| 14 Oct 2008 | Kačena Mulíková | I really enjoyed this visit....The DeepWood characters are really cool...Keep it up and Ill be back soon (Aint I good at self-invitating??)... Panu Hakkarainen replies: "And I thank you for your more than generous commenting. Feel free to "self-invite" yourself whenever you feel like it.
There is definitely coming more DeepWood in the future but I cannot give any exact timetables. I have 3 more ideas ready for the comics but I have to draw them first and that might take some time. Thanks again for your visit and for adding me to your favorites."
