Many of the dragons in English folklore are worms/wyrms (legless serpent dragons). It is said that the ridged hills found throughout England were created by a dragon coiling up around the hill, and wearing the ridges into it. These hills are called wormhills. This is a modern wormhill. The dragon resident has moved with the times and no longer terrorises the countryside. Instead, he invites his friends around for a cup of tea and a chat.

This picture is part of the Bifrost project 'International Elfwoodians', which is to show your own country or ethnic background in a fantasy or sci-fi way. As a fan of dragons, mythology and drinking tea, this was the logical choice. The writing says 'Milk' on the jug. It was lost at this size. 22 May 2006	Barbara J. Wickham	Loading... This could easily be from the pages of a children's folklore book. What a great way to illustrate a legend by giving it a touch of whimsy. I can imagine that the dragon and his friends would have some great stories to tell around the tea pot. The composition keeps the eye busy with all of the details that pop out here and there. I love the way the dragons' tail brings the focus to the center where the main action is happening. The colors are gorgeous with a good balance of warm and cool hues. Thanks for being the first to comment on my project submission. It means alot to me that you like it!
