| 17 Dec 2002 | Cynthia L. Reep | Loading...*grins* And I was in turn inspired by a Salamander in a dream who looked like a Diplocaulus ... an ancient amphibian from before the dinosaurs. There is also a little bit more to the Salamander-as-Fire-Spirirt story, too -- actually, I'd never heard the bit that you have on there. What I'd heard was that sometimes, wood used to fuel fires harbored newts and salamanders in hollows in the logs or under the bark -- the heat drove them out, and people would see them coming out of the flames. I guess they didn't pay much attention to the ones that got crisped.  I've also heard that their slimy skins afforded them a very brief protection from the heat, but since the majority of salamanders really aren't all that slimy ... *shrug* But ... beautimous, as usual!  I can't wait to see what you do for water! | |
