'When the light of day was come into the sky but the sun was not yet risen above the high ridges of the East, Aragorn made ready to depart. His company was all mounted, and he was about to leap into the saddle, when the Lady Éowyn came to bid them farewell. She was clad as a Rider and girt with a sword. In her hand she bore a cup, and she set it to her lips and drank a little, wishing them good speed; and then she gave the cup to Aragorn, and he drank, and he said: 'Farewell Lady of Rohan! I drink to the fortunes of your House and of you, and of all your people. Say to your brother: beyond the shadows we may meet again!''

THANK YOU JOHNATHAN!!!! I really hate all those people who only go by the movies, really they should be shot. I love Eowen in the books, mind you, the books!! And your interpretation of this scene is fantastic. The people above should really read the real LOTR, wow, thats alliteration for ya, well, anyways, what happens in the books are final and no one, i mean no one should say otherwise.Yes, I agree. It's almost as if the movies have become canon now, which is very disheartening. Thanks for the comment.

Yeah, I really hate what the movie did to Eowyn!! I'm a BOOK fan, and what I mean by that is that I'm a fan of the BOOK.2 The movie has created a class of people hitherto unknown to LOTR: the Eowyn haters. By trying to give Arwen so much more S.A., they've ended up by making Eowyn a very nasty character...my poor, poor Eowyn! The trouble is that Tolkien wrote on such an intricate level, to try and change one character has a knock-on effect, in which all other perceptions of characters have to change as well. That's why PJ should have tried to stay truer to Tolkien's work.

Oh my! i am sorry, I could be bugging U. I have commented on all most all of your work, but i love it all! Eowyn is my fav character in LOTR! I am sooo glad that U don't use the movie for inspirtation. It looks MUCH more original and...just BETTER! 2 I love it.You're not bugging me in the slightest. On the contrary. I'm really glad you like my interpretations of Tolkien's work. The movies have never really impressed me.

Hmm, I won't do any movie bashing because I love them. But yes, the book and the movies should be taken separately. People should say, for example "I hate movie Eowyn", but they can't hate the original Eowyn because they obviously never read the book.
And as you've repeated so many times, you base your beautiful paintings strictly on the book, so I'm quite bugged by all those comments about "stealing Aragorn" or "ugly Arwen" *sigh*.
Anyway, this is a beautiful work of art, I love your style. The mountains must have taken such a long time to paint, all the details! And the light reflecting on Eowyn's golden hair is gorgeous.Thank you very much indeed. Yeah, I'm very much a book-canon sorta guy, and feel that the movie and book should never be confused. Of course, this isn't always the case.

I'm surprised that no one has commented on the departure from your usual style. It is different, but still wonderful. My favorite bit is actually the horse. I'm not sure why, though. I also admire eowyn's face. She looks so sad, but so noble. I think peter jackson achieved that in a few scenes, but not quite enough. In the movies, eowyn's love for aragorn seems to be almost a crush - she's infatuated with the noble hero. This is emphasized by the way she seems to mature from a girl to a woman in the movie. In the book, however, eowyn is drawn to aragorn in a more classical way. She is not in love with aragorn the hero so much as aragorn the noble and worthy man, and then aragorn the king. This is re-emphasized when she turns her affections to faramir. He also meets the qualities of being a noble and gentle man. I was dissapointed that farmir's courtship of her was not shown in the movie, but i hold out hope for the special edition. 2
i don't think aragorn looks emaciated at all.Wow, thanks very much for the comment. I wouldn't say this is a 'departure from my usual style' as such, rather that this is a much older piece (painted about 3-4 years ago now), and thus looks naturally different. 2

I simply adore your style. Especially your rendering of Éowyn's hair, the ruggedness of Aragorn's face... and, of course, the horse!Thank you!

Ok. No one yell at me. I have just started the first book, of course i saw the movies first and loved them but i hadn't gotten the first book until a few days ago when i went to half price books where they were selling it for a reasonable price under $10 which is the best thing and i finally got the book that i've been wanting to read for a very long time. Anyway i'm rambling on, but i especially like this scene the most out of all the ones that i have seen so far.Thank you very much. I hope you enjoy the read. I think you'll like it more than the movie version.

hehe i remember tryin to read LOTR in 6th grade n finding it really boring....now its one of my mostest favouritest books..funny how tht happens...anyway ur painting is great cuz it shows a totally different luking aragorn than the movie one...its always interesting to see how people imagined their characters before a movie release gives a uniform image to each character...if ya kno wat i mean....
