'The morning came after the day of battle, and it was fair with light clouds and the wind turning westward. Legolas and Gimli were early abroad, and they begged leave to go up into the City; for they were eager to see Merry and Pippin.
It is good to learn that they are still alive,' said Gimli; 'for they cost us great pains in our march over Rohan, and I would not have such pains all wasted.'
Together the Elf and Dwarf entered Minas Tirith, and folk that saw them pass marvelled to see such companions; for Legolas was fair of face beyond the measure of Men, and he sang an elven-song in a clear voice as he walked in the morning; but Gimli stalked beside him, stroking his beard and staring about him.'

Still one of my favorite pictures in The Woods, I really like the medieval look to it. You're one of my very favorite artists here!Thank you very much indeed. I'm honoured -- not least because of the extraordinary talent on display in many Elfwood galleries. I'm glad you like my work.

Niiice! I love your depiction of Leggy! I love it that he has fair-brown hair rather then bleach-blond... though he looks good like that too. ^_~ lol. Anyways, I loove this pic of the two! It's wonderful! You have such talent! Thanks a lot, again. I take it you're undecided as to what hair colour Legolas should have?

Legolas hair color problem! That's funny! Have you ever noticed that Tolkien tends to say more about landscape than the look of his characters? I guess nobody knows exactly about most of them. We usually get their inner qualities instead of their appearance.
Another of my favourite scenes. Legolas walking softly, singing in his elvish language, Gimli looking at houses and walls and thinking some of them could have been built better... I like the contrast between them. Their friendship is one of the most memorable things in The Lord of the Rings. Without each other no one of them would be so important. This is something I've always particularly liked about Tolkien -- his ability to evoke a character's inner personality without having to explain exactly how they look. It leaves a lot to the imagination of the reader. Thanks for the comment, it's appreciated.

I forgot to mention the stares they get... I really like it. It indicates that they are such strange friends. We are used to see them together, but it wasn't normal in their days, and your picture shows it.It's nice seeing these two within the walls of Minas Tirith as it kind of puts them, and their friendship, in context with the Third Age as a whole.

WOW! I have never seen a pic with Legolas having brown hair, and you know what, it fits him perfectly. Why didn't I think of that?! Very very good! Gimli is excellent as well!
