'As Maeglin grew to full stature he resembled in face and form rather his kindred of the Noldor, but in mood and mind he was the son of his father. His words were few save in matters that touched him near, and then his voice had a power to move those that heard him and to overthrow those that withstood him. He was tall and black haired; his eyes were dark, yet bright and keen as the eyes of the Noldor, and his skin was white.'

JRR Tolkien: The Silmarillion: Chapter 16: Of Maeglin

Now, that is an Elf. You may say that you believe he is too thin, but I honestly believe that an extremely slender Elf should not be a very rare thing at all.

Of course, I may just be saying this because I have at last seen an Elf that looks like me. [Chuckles] It is a flattering feeling to resemble an Elf from any artist.I'm sure it is -- many people would like to hear that they look like an Elf!
Well, thanks a lot for the comment. I still believe that the slenderness in this particular portrait of Maeglin is a little overdone. But nonetheless, I still see Elves in this manner.

You know, Peter, i have to say that ALL of your Elves no matter what sex, seem to all have a feminine air. I mean, you usually draw peaceful scenes, so their wrath isn't manifested, and thats good...hopefully in the future you'll be able to draw some kick butt war scene, who knows? 2But I like that about them...that they all have a softness to them. Very nice.
Regrettably, i read somewhere that you don't enjoy the LOTR series? And being a reader of the books, I can see your point exactly, but you must at least give PJ credit...the stunts, the CG-ed stuff, the casting...all of that took hard work and shouldn't go unnoticed. NOT that you don't think so, I'm not blaming you...gosh, i hope that didn't come out in a mean way...sorry, Peter!!!Well, as long as the female elves don't have a masculine air about them, then I'll be glad! Actually, I'm in the long process of drawing and painting 'the Battle of...'. I won't spoil the surprise 12
As for the movie. Actually, all these things are not really worthy of much credit, at least to me, for casting and stunts are basically the bread and butter of all or most film-making, so why honour PJ more than others who do just the same thing. And I wasn't even impressed with most of the CG work either! It made Middle-earth look too polished. Thanks for the comment.

Oooh...It's maeglin! Wasn't he a bad one? Glad you drew him though... Though i have to say..The only thing i like about him is his name! 2 you have done justice to how i pictured him...Very good! Thanks a lot. Though Maeglin isn't particularly 'nice', as such, he's more interesting for it. And that's why I like his character all the more.

An excellent picture. Love the rendering of Anguirel, and the expression on Maeglin's face. reminds me of the meaning of his name... a few comments. A bit flat, maybe should add more shading, also (imo) his clothes should be a bit blacker... and have a mole on them, as maeglin was lord of the house of the sable mole.Thank you very much. This is one of my early paintings, so many inaccuracies are likely to be present. Nonetheless, thanks for pointing them out to me.

Very interesting style of work you have. Looks almost as though as this should be on a medieval tapestry of some sorts. namariThanks a lot.

"Actually, I'm in the long process of drawing and painting 'the Battle of...'" Unnumbered Tears? (or at least I can sincerely hope I remembered that name right...haven't read Sil in a while) Just a guess. That would be -so- cool. XD

As for the picture, yeh, maybe a little too thin, but actually very much like I pictured him. Great job! Now if only I could figure out who -else- this reminds me of...Actually, the battle piece I was talking about in an earlier response was 'The Battle of the Morannon', which by now is up and published in the gallery. Sorry about that! I guess some images from the Eldar Days battles would be fun to do, so maybe sometime. Thanks for the comment by the way -- when you figure out who else this reminds you of, don't hesitate to let me know 2.

WHAT??? It just occured to me, that one of the races in Warhammer - Dawn of war is called the Eldar. And the developers put copyright on that. Correct me if i'm wrong, but, isn't this a bit of... of... who knows what?

Ooooooooo! This looks like one of those ancient medieval masterpieces that's done on like tapestries and such. I like your style!

Your pictures are beautiful, each and every one of them! But this one has a sort of ancient feel to it - like those pictures the old Greeks painted on walls. Love it!
