'At the south end of the greensward there was an opening. There the green floor ran into the wood, and formed a wide space like a hall, roofed by the boughs of trees. Their great trunks ran like pillars down each side. In the middle there was a wood-fire blazing, and upon the tree-pillars torches with lights of gold and silver were burning steadily. The Elves sat around the fire upon the grass or upon the sawn rings of old trunks. Some went to and fro bearing cups and pouring drinks; others brought food on heaped plates and dishes.
'This is poor fare' they said to the hobbits; 'for we are lodging in the greenswood far from our halls. If ever you are guests at home, we will treat you better.
'It seems to me good enough for a birthday-party' said Frodo.
Pippin afterwards recalled little of either food or drink, for his mind was filled with the light upon the elf-faces, and the sound of voices so various and so beautiful that he felt in a waking dream. But he remembered that there was bread, surpassing the savour of a fair white loaf to one who is starving; and fruits sweet as wildberries and richer than the tended fruits of gardens; he drained a cup that was filled with a fragrant draught, cool as a clear fountain, golden as a summer afternoon.'

Peter, you've really out done yourself. I love the expression of the Elf thats looking at Frodo...he's listening so intently, and yet he's sitting stock still so you kind of have to trust he's listening, and of course you don't want to bluntly say, "hey? are you listening?!" I mean, respect for the Elven race goes a long way. Its kind of unnatural the way these Elven peeps act, no? Its almost TOO immaculate...but I do adore them, nonetheless. Though, personally i think that humans have a certain inner spirit that is repeatedly overlooked by all other races, and that, we could seriously wipe the floor with Elves and other races as well.
I love the name Peter...most likely has to do with my crush on Peter Parker...*ahem* Why did i JUST say that? *embarrassed beyond belief that her fave living artist after her sister knows this now* We can still be friends, right? 12 I still love you and your art!!!!Again, thank you for such a wonderful comment, and for one that sparks debate. I agree, humans do have an almost indomitable spirit. But one must remember that the Elves are inherently 'more good' than Men, and less susceptible to evil. I don't recall any Elf being willingly or openly seduced by either Morgoth or Sauron (as opposed to most of mankind), and the only reason that the Men of the West are so noble is because of Elvish influence, and even their own Elvish ancestry. Having said this, it's warming to read that many Elves hold Men akin to them, and as equals. Take note of ATHRABETH FINROD AH ANDRETH' from the 'HoM-e' series. As for your 'revelation'? Well, we'll just let that one quietly slip by, shall we? 12

Only 1 thing I find wrong with the picture and I'm extremely sorry if you've heard this from others b/c I didn't read the other comments. It looks like Frodo is in the fire to me, I dunno if it's just the way I look at it, but I thought"AHHH WHAT'S HE DOING!?!!"
other than that, it's b-e-a-utiful!I have indeed heard this before, but I don't begrudge you the right to say it again. Thanks for the comment.
14 Jan 200545 I'm lovin it

I like the way you draw hobbits (Frodo is CUTE!) and the feet (though I can only s a bit of them, are perfect. I didn'y think they got the feet right in the films, and it was a bit disappointing, seeing as I read the books first. I'm rambling again aren't I? Anyhoos, *claps*

Woooohooo! This part in the book was fascinating and I'm disapointed how they skipped that in the movies (along with countless other stuff). You excite me with your artwork. I like the feeling in this.

hate to say it, but ditto to the whole Alan Lee-likeness - it’s a good representation of the original watercolour, though - you captured the glowing heat of the fire well, and the expressions are also well done!

wow, i love this picture! the elf is drawn wonderfully, and don’t take this like an insult, I just feel they should have some leggings on. After all, they are travelling. Don’t take that personally or anything, cause i adore this picture. Keep up the amazing work!
