'A mile, maybe, from Parth Galen in a little glade not far from the lake he found Boromir. He was sitting with his back to a great tree, as if he was resting. But Aragorn saw that he was pierced with many black-feathered arrows; his sword was still in his hand, but it was broken near the hilts; his horn cloven in two was at his side.'

JRR Tolkien: The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers: Book III, Chapter 1: The Departure of Boromir

I agree with ashley, Boromir looks as though he's gathering strength to speak. And Aragorn's pose gives a sense of being absolutey helpless. I am moved almost to tears. I read the trilogy when I was 11 years old and I fell in love with big, strong Boromir. I was crushed when this happened. This is almost how I imagined it. (you just forgot to paint me clutching his arm and sobbing! -wink-) Thanks a lot. You'll have imagine yourself there, I'm afraid. I'm glad you like this portrayal -- Boromir was too one of my favourites, and this was a real kick in the guts.

Peter, ignore the noobs. keep on drawing, your stuff is just fabulous!

OBTW: Mebbe Boromir is pinned to the tree by one of those arrows....Thanks a lot.

Well, looking at the shaft length of the others, I don't think they're quite long enough to pin him to the tree. Also, I don't think an arrow would have enough momentum to drive too far into a tree after going through a body. ^^;; But nonetheless, I think his position is fine. For someone in that much pain, I think it'd be natural to be rather stiff, especially if he's trying to endure it as you said. Wonderful job as usual. Thanks a lot for the comment. You're right, it wasn't my intention for Boromir to be pinned to the tree, rather that he is stiff and rigid, and trying not to cause any more pain through too much movement. I'm glad you've noted this somewhat.

Very nice work though the expression on Boromir's face made me laugh. He doesn't have that look of calmness with death taking him away or agony. Just sort of an, "Ah crap, not again" look. I love your work though. This seems to get a very mixed response, half agreeing with the character's expressions, and the other half feeling the other way, such as yourself. I think it's fair enough, thanks for the comment.

Beautiful picture. I think you did really capture the moment- both men knowing that Boromir was dying, and accepting it, and sort of waiting peacefully for it to happen. Well, that sounds bad, but you get my meaning I hope. Very, very good artistry as always. Eight thumbs up.Ah, this is exactly what I was trying to portray. Based on many opinions to the contrary, I'm not sure whether I actually managed to pull it off or not. Regardless, thank you for the comment.

He doersn't look like he's in a pain . . . he looks like he's thinking 'do you mind? Jeez, I've just been punched full of holes'.
But on the other hand it is a very good picCould be better, I concede. I'd love to re-paint this given the chance.
