I've been tooling around with this idea for some time, ever since DeviantArt buddy Avancna got it stuck in my head a couple of years ago.

Behold, it's a cockatoo... with tentacles... BWAHAHAHAHAHA!

Watercolor and Prismacolor pencil. Accomplished in about 10 hours. Apx 9x15 inches in size.

wow, cool idea! love the use of colours! 2 i wouldnt mind having a pet one of these... what made u come up with the idea? tis original..

12 Rachael Mayo replies: "I don’t know that these guys would make good pets... Both ****atoos and octopi are notoriously clever escape artists, so I imagine you’d have a hard time keeping hold of this critter!

The idea spun off of a clip from a Simpsons cartoon that a friend sent me. They had a little parrot whose wings were tentacles, and I thought the very idea of an "octoparrot" was just too much fun to pass up. Thought I’d make one of my own."

Wow! That’s impressive! Really great how you can handle colours! I should take a lesson with you as my teacher! ^^ How much would you take?

:-) Rachael Mayo replies: "Thanks very much! Unfortunately, my day job and my art job take up most of my time. I haven’t had much opportunity to teach in some time. If you have questions, though, feel free to email me directly. Link’s on the front page."

This is just stunning! I am going to rush out and try to find a Mad Scientist to genetically engineer me one right now!Seriously, this is one of the best (and weirdest) pictures I have seen on elfwood. But Weird in a very good way.

12 Rachael Mayo replies: "LOL - Thanks again. Granted, I wouldn’t recommend octoparrots as house pets. Both ****atoos and octopi are notirious for their escape artistry and their ability to completely destroy whatever captures their attention."

Wow, this is awesome! Very, very creative idea, I would NEVER have thought to draw something like this! The background is lovely as well, I compliment your use of colors! Keep up the good work!

12 Rachael Mayo replies: "Thanks very much.

The original idea was a bit of a lark for a friend, based on a snippet from one of his favorite cartoons. It ended up being such a fun idea that I decided to do a finished version."

Very nice concept, I’m not sure if I’d call it cute or creepy, and these kind of creatures are what I like the most. 1 Especially the combination of motif and light and innocent colors is what’s making this special.
