I created the background with regular watercolor. I colored the octoparrot with wax-based colored pencils."

Rachael Mayo replies: "I don’t know that these guys would make good pets... Both ****atoos and octopi are notoriously clever escape artists, so I imagine you’d have a hard time keeping hold of this critter!
The idea spun off of a clip from a Simpsons cartoon that a friend sent me. They had a little parrot whose wings were tentacles, and I thought the very idea of an "octoparrot" was just too much fun to pass up. Thought I’d make one of my own."

Rachael Mayo replies: "Thanks very much! Unfortunately, my day job and my art job take up most of my time. I haven’t had much opportunity to teach in some time. If you have questions, though, feel free to email me directly. Link’s on the front page."

I am going to rush out and try to find a Mad Scientist to genetically engineer me one right now!Seriously, this is one of the best (and weirdest) pictures I have seen on elfwood. But Weird in a very good way. Rachael Mayo replies: "LOL - Thanks again. Granted, I wouldn’t recommend octoparrots as house pets. Both ****atoos and octopi are notirious for their escape artistry and their ability to completely destroy whatever captures their attention."
| 12 Sep 2009 | Carrie E Ott | Loading...Wow, this is awesome! Very, very creative idea, I would NEVER have thought to draw something like this! The background is lovely as well, I compliment your use of colors! Keep up the good work! Rachael Mayo replies: "Thanks very much.
The original idea was a bit of a lark for a friend, based on a snippet from one of his favorite cartoons. It ended up being such a fun idea that I decided to do a finished version."
