SciFi and Fantasy Art Demon Drums by Rachael Mayo

These are original characters developed for the Predator fan universe, based on the Predator movies and comics.

This is a picture from the 'Ritual Song' series.

I saw a group of Nigerian dancers and drummers whose energetic movements I thought would translate quite well to the Predators. We don't see the boys playing musical instruments very often (well, NEVER), so I thought I'd start with instruments like drums that would fit these high-octane Hunters.

I imagine that these guys are re-enacting a God-Hero legend. The story of a great and ferocious battle is being told through the voices of the drums and through the occasional antiphon sung by the clan Elders and repeated by the younger warriors. This frenzied drumming and dancing will evolve into a ritualized battle, with one group playing the part of the Enemies and one of the God-Heroes.

They can take breaks to play music. A flute? How about a trombone? grins Great details, as usual (I'm sure you're getting tired of that comment, but too bad!). They do look like they're really getting into the dance-play-drama-theater-type thing. And the way you did the background gives it a very strong action-oriented atmosphere.

XP I have a moose skull, deer skull, a porcupine skull and I have a dead porcupine getting ready to decompose. It’s hanging on a tree. Yay! XD Rachael Mayo replies: "Actually, that’s pretty cool. I work primarily from photographic references because I don’t live in an area where there is much variety in animal skulls. I’d certainly have a noggin collection of my own were the critters available. ^_~"
