He raised his head, trembling, wet, miserable, and with wide eyes that spoke his need to hear that name again.

Here you have my original cat character Smoke looking the absolute most needy/close to bursting into tears I imagine he ever gets. And it's hecka adorable, despite the fact that I had to redraw the bottom half of his face completely and also widen his shoulders who knows how many times before they fit the size of his head cuz I'm dumb like that. But anyway. Since I can't yet manage real backgrounds with colored pencil, I will explain the meaning of the weird glowy ball of yellowish color.
It's been in the story plan for a while that eventually Smoke would go off on his own to try and find some answers. You can't expect the arrival of Luthor to leave him untouched, especially with him introducing to Smoke all sorts of unnerving talk about freedom and doing things for yourself, when all this poor cat's ever known was that you do what you do to please your master. So here we find him, at the end of his wanderings, curled up in some dark place and thoroughly miserable- we all know cats hate the rain. And then he sees a lantern and a familiar face.
So yeah the yellow is supposed to be the glow from the lantern. Or something. Maybe even an open door of some house on the street he's on. I dunno! Use your imagination >_> XD *cough*
