It does take a lot of strength to do such a thing and I think you have captured the torture and pain that goes along with such a difficult action quite nicely. You have also made it evident that while such things are horribly painful, it is a very beautiful thing in the end that you do for yourself. Just as beautiful as your picture imho. *very well done, both in the spirit of feelings and the artwork!* Maybe you don’t like it because this is a difficult place to see yourself in...and being a self-portrait...it’s definitely you going through it. Not fun...but necessary. Rachael A. Tallamy replies: "Thank you so much, Mardi!"
| 17 Apr 2008 | Green Phoenix | Loading...I can see a number of small imperfections and ways in whch the picture could be better, but... I think overall the movement and the emotion completely win you over when you look at it. So - don’t hate it all that badly, eh? : ) ~#G Rachael A. Tallamy replies: "Thank you! To quote you "a number of small imperfections and ways in whch the picture could be better" Can you tell me specifically what those imperfections and ways are? Then I will know for the next piece of art. (I already know the hand is bad). Blanket comments like that don’t help me. I would love to improve. So, I’d appreciate specifics. Thanks so much!" | |
| 21 Apr 2008 | Green Phoenix | Loading...Well, at the time it was either making the comment that I made or making no comment at all. It is unfortunate to be pressed fot time.... still I can now come back and give you more feedback. Yes, the arm and the upper torso are a little off - the chest is a little low and the arm starts off like it’s coming out towards the viewer but ends up going behind the figure, giving it a strange bend. Perhaps the folds of the garment do not help too much with this.
The far arm looks less like it is bent behind the head and more like it is outstrethed and has an abnormally long sleeve floating behins it. I think here it has more to do with the shading - defining the 3D shape of it.
The wings look most unfinished and like it’s made up of strange fluff, which seems out of place with the realism in the rest of the picture.
So. I still like it though. Especially the face. : )
