||My most personal favorite from the Godzilla series. Hedorah made its first (and so far only) appearance in 1971's 'Godzilla vs. The Smog Monster' and were some sort of alien spores from a 'gooey and black' star system that landed on Earth in the equally 'gooey and black' polluted waters of Tokyo Bay. Over time, the spores took on tadpole like shapes and meeting one-by-one, merged and merged again to become a single living mass of evil and death, Hedorah. There's many reasons why I like this guy. For one, he had multiple forms, each of them very cool and nicely designed for the time, starting with the multiple small and larger gestalt tadpoles. A hopping, quadruped land form. A hovering, poisonous gas spewing flying form. And finally, Hedorah's ultimate form, the bipedal, ooze crapping, titan of slimy doom that you see before you. Also, for what is essentially a walking pile of muck, Hedorah obviously had a gleefully sadistic personality going on in that bulbous head of his. Especially in scenes where he's laughing at Godzilla misery during battle or the very memorable sequence where the land form of Hedorah comes crawling to the shore and begins sucking the fumes of factory smoke stacks and eluding in it like a blissful drug addict. Hedorah may be a byproduct from the crazier and campy world of 70s kaiju, but to me he's still one evil bad ass mother!|
