More experiments with markers. Today’s subjects are Royce (the woman) and Gavin (the man). I did this totally with marker, meaning that I didn’t bother with pencil sketches. Markers are definitely not my artistic forte, but I wanted to see what I could do. Well, it came out interesting. It’s one of my few pictures that shows a house’s interior.

The house belongs to my character Glee. She is a noblewoman, and her villa is quite ancient, as can be discerned by the script on her wall. The script on the left wall was popular four hundred years ago, so that is the older section of the house. The right is newer, and so the script is more highly developed and ornate. Both scripts are entirely made up by me and are prayers requesting the protection of the goddess Ilunma.

The thing on Royce’s waist is magical armor. The dots show which elemental spells it’s strong against -in this case, all four- and the symbol is the name of its maker (again, the script is totally made up). Royce is a mercenary, and one thing she does to bring in extra money is to test new combat products.

Both Royce and Gavin turned out looking pretty peeved here. Glee must have hired them for a job but is keeping them waiting.

Actually, as a experimental piece, it's actually quite good; highlights on their skin in particular. That tapestry on the righ-hand side looks good; the swirling letters look almost Tolkien-esque.
Can I suggest Canson marker paper? Maybe in combination with a Prismacolor clear blender, or even a q-tip dipped in alcohol.

:-) Rachel Day replies: "By all means, suggest away! I can always use pointers. I'm relieved you think it didn't turn out too bad for an experiment. Marker paper would have definitely been good though... Thanks for commenting."

*Didn't know there was a such thing as marker paper*

Very cool. I like. O.o With that armour, how does she _move_? How can she bend and do whatever? It's like chain-mail bikinis! But very nice. I like the design 'cause it _isn't_ a chain-mail bikini. I also like the entire picture. This is how I type when I have very little time to think things out.

:-) Rachel Day replies: "I wasn't aware of marker paper either. As for the armor, it's not plate mail or anything, it's just made of a special magic-resistant leather (not that it's any good against a sword). If you keep it nicely maintained, it stays pretty supple. I happen to dislike chain mail bikinis too."
