Cool...I haven't tried a harpy yet...(great! Now i want to read another zanth novel ....Ahhhh piers anthony....My hero)...I'm currently workin on several different projects...As soon as my new pics come up i'll be adding my most recent sketch of a chimera? (isn't that the one with the body of a lion, head of a man with 3 rows of teeth, bat-like wings and the tail of a scorpion?) i'm not up on my mythology as i used to be.

:-) Regan M. Johnson replies: "Please do post that chimera! The Chex Mix of mythology! 2 My harpy comes from my memory and I'd read an encounter of one recently in a new book coming called the Fifth Sorcerress (had an early edition don't know if it's out yet)"

Was this inspired by Norman Lindsay's work it reminds me very much of his work Siren. It lovely and I can't wait to see the finished version.

I love Piers Anthony's Xanth books too! It strikes me that the harpy needs a little more behind.

:-) Regan M. Johnson replies: "Harpy need "back" 1 Sorry, couldn't resist! I'm painting the harpy now and think I solved it in shading... we'll see. The bright yellow feet/talons direct the eye, so that might help too, ya can't tell in bw... thank you, a really useful observation!"

finally someone who does a harpy justice, and hopefully will not treat a siren as anything other than a siren! As a latin student it tends to irk me when people misportray things they call harpies as snake people or suck like.

She's a dangerous beauty, the kind you just can't resist. Incidently, with regard to the above post, what you are discribing is a maticore, not a chimera. The chimera was a similar monster of Greek mythology that had a lion's body and head, plus a serpent's head and a goat's head. Depending on the source, it may or may not have had wings and occationally the serpent's head was on its back side in place of a tail. *thunk* Okay, shutting up now.

I think this is a great sketch, it's got a great sense of movement. Maybe she could use some more expression on her face, but I'm not sure, her blank eyes do pretty well.

AIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! *flaps wings in an imatation of the harpie* lavlavlavLAV! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! the pose- fantastic, really looks as if she's gonna swoop down an' eat on of those plative/prissy/whiney/girly-girls form the village. ^^ *claps talons together* nyoo!!!! the bird part owns, mebe little more shading on the right wing to emphasize the perspective/angle/etc. I like how u didn't put pupils. Eyes are overrated. LMAO! ^^ face needs...an expression?? yeaaaaa one of those bizzatchie-hey-im-better-than-u expressions...EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! me likeeeeeeee....^^
