Snow White with the poisenous comb. Made for a monthly art challence where the theme was fairy tales.

Looking at the fairytale as it was reported by the Brothers grimm, Snow White can't have been the smartest dreature to walk the earth. I mean, she was beatyfull and all, but honestly.
We got a young princess knowing that she is wanted dead by her evil stepmother, and who has fleed to a cabin inhabited by seven dwarfs. Those tells her not to let anyone inside, and yet, she still receives a lace from an old lady, who tries to strangle her with it.
So, she should know now... Don't open the door for little old ladies. Yet, next day, she still receives a comb from another of those. Again, with a near fatal result. And yet... After all those warnings. Pretty princess Snow White still starts to eat the apple from the third salesperson. Sure, this little old lady had to bite in the apple first, she WAS suspicious. But what was she doing talking to her in the first place?!?

In conclusion, one of the following factors must have had an influence:
1) Snow White migth be beautyful, but she had never learned to think, and was incredible naive and stupid. She was a European Noble after all. Inbreed could have had a saying her. that could also explain her skin being white as snow.
2) Snow White was a hopeless shopaholic. Addicted to shopping, the young princess HAD to take the poisenous artifacts, even if she knew they were dangerous.

*first comment jig* I really like that email notification thing ^_^ This is a beautiful, sharp image. I love the lines and the color and your description really gave it something extra. ^_^ EXCELLENT!

:-) Rikke Lindskov ´Gwennafran´ Loft replies: "Nice to know that people can use my mailinglist. ^___^ The description is more or less my favourite part of this picture. I'm thinking of making a "Shopaholic Snow White pic" some day. Showing her with all kinds of withdrawal symptoms while trying to convince herself NOT to talk to the old lady with the apple. ^_~"

:-) Rikke Lindskov ´Gwennafran´ Loft replies: "Thanks a lot. This picture turned out *really* good considering the amount of time I used on it. (Don't we all just love deadlines? ^_~)"

several years back a '10 hour' movie call The Tenth Kingdom, In the movie it was explained that even though snow white knew better she kept opening the door because she felt that she couldn't keep hiding in fear forever, or something like that. very nice picture, beautiful coloring and color choice (it is saying alot for me since I'm not a fan of the color red.)

:-) Rikke Lindskov ´Gwennafran´ Loft replies: "Well, I'm sure some people can come up with reasonable explanations. But fairy tales just doesn't fdo in feelings, and well. L0ooking at her actions... She ain't the smartest gall in town. ^_~ "

Very beautiful! I've always liked women with jet-black hair. Oh, and by the way: In the original version of the story, Snow White was only seven-years old when she went into hiding, so there could be two explanations to her "ahem" rather stupid behavior. 1) She was only seven, and kids are naturally naive and trusting of anyone. (and of course, once she bit the apple, she was unconcious for ten years, and grew up into a seventeen-year old young woman, while still sleeping in the coffin.) or 2) in some versions of the story, she lives with the dwarves for ten years, from the time she's seven. Interspersed throughout her decade of hiding, the queen comes 3 times. Once, when Snow White is still a little girl. The second time, when she is about twelve or thirteen-years old. And the third time,(with the apple,) when she's seventeen.

Just something to clarify things.

:-) Rikke Lindskov ´Gwennafran´ Loft replies: "Funny... I remember her to be older in my grimm version. or... Well, without an specific age or something. =/"
